5 out of 5 stars Invaluable   February 17, 2008

This is an ideal companion to the usual kind of field guide. Beautifully and clearly illustrated, "Identifying Birds by Behaviour" lets you compare species at a glance with invaluable hints to help you differentiate between birds which are superficially alike. It illustrates clearly things like relative size and subtle variations in plumage, and best of all it gives good indications of movement and flight patterns. This book provides a level of insight that would take the weekend birdwatcher years in the field to match, and it also draws your attention to details that you might otherwise have overlooked, thus enhancing your enjoyment of birds. A gem.
