3 out of 5 stars Not as good as Eggert   July 12, 2003
I work in the area of career counselling and career development. This title is a copycat of Max Eggert's authoritative "The Perfect CV." Eggert's book is to my mind one of the best self help books around. I would strongly suggest that readers who are looking to buy a title in this area look at both books side by side before making a choice.

4 out of 5 stars Great for those needing a few pointers to get that job!   November 21, 2002

This book was given to me by a redundancy consultany firm paid for by an ex employer of mine. They selected it with good reason from amongst the multitude of similiar books. I couldn't give it 5 stars because I only feel this is deserving of life shaking books whilst this is merely life changing.

There is a lot of stuff about the 90s which makes the book appear dated until you realise that the real meat of this book is always current, ie writing for impact, layout and presentation in general and, of course, selling yourself appropriately and effectively.

There are sections for college students and for women reentering the job market, sample CVs (including specific paragraphs relevant to different careers)and tips on managing your career search. This latter point is a great summary of key issues to consider such as coping with walls of resistance (your fear of rejection and their fear that you are going to waste their time).

Personally I found the positive approach to women returners most helpful, particularly the sample covering letter and four suggested CVs.

I enjoyed this book thoroughly. It explained all the different types of CVs. I believe it helped me tremendously in my quest for a job. I recommend it highly for any one who is confused about how to write a new CV or update an existing one
