This is the first Jane Elizabeth Varley book I've read and I was definitely impressed. The story centers around the differing lives of three sisters.
Victoria is married to high-flyer David whose ultimate quest is to become an MP. Victorias days consist of organizing David and their two rambunctious children but is all her effort appreciated? Annie's life is devastated when tragedy strikes at her doorstep and her world falls apart bit-by-bit. Clara and Tom seem the ideal couple until boredom sets in and Clara finds herself falling for one of her university students.
This is a really entertaining read. JE Varley manages to get us inside each of the three sisters and see their lives from their viewpoint.....insecurities and all. The relationship between the three sisters could be that of any three sisters and that's what sucks you in all the more.
My only complaint about this book......it wasn't long enough. I just wanted it to go on and on and on.

What impressed me most about this book was Varley's powers of observation. She is a lawyer and demonstrates very clearly how we all leave clues in the way we behave. Not only in what we say and do but in the way we interact with others. In an age where so many people lead such complicated lives there is a lesson here for everyone.
You will probably never look at your partner in the same way again.

The definition of a good book to me is one that you read in one hit if you had the time!This book is one of those .
The 3 sisters have great depth and wonderfully different personalities that make this book difficult to put down. Brilliant observations of inner turmoil and angst and some touching moments of real life make this one of the best first time published novelists I have come across for ages.
I laughed and cried , I thought that only happened at the movies!!COMPELLING READING CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT ONE!!

I was recommended by a friend to read this book and it's not the usual type of thing I read but I was hooked. I think the writer has a real gift for storytelling, i was impressed by the plot twists. A good beach read.
