Amazon.co.uk Review
Just for the Record is the second autobiography from ex-Spice Girl, dog lover and United Nations Goodwill Ambassador, Geri Halliwell. In If Only Geri charted her "rags to riches" journey from Watford to the point at which she dramatically left the Spice Girls. In this sumptuously illustrated book she candidly explains "what happened next".

Her post Spice Girls life has not, it emerges, been easy. Having buried "Ginger Spice", Geri admits it has been a struggle to shake off her old image and establish herself as solo artist. While she did eventually manage to clock up four No. 1 singles and two Top 10 albums, she was plagued by stalkers and the tabloid press and battled with depression and a serious eating disorder. She confesses to regularly starving herself and to bingeing on a chocolate cake fished out of a rubbish bin. The most unnerving thing about this book is the contrast between the images it contains and some of Halliwell's more painful reminiscences.

The story has a happy ending: with the help of friends George Michael and Robbie Williams, Geri managed to beat her eating disorders. She now advocates eating well and exercising regularly and seems, even with a somewhat flagging musical career, genuinely content with her lot. The prurient will be disappointed to find she only has nice words for ex-lover Chris Evans and her former colleagues. Wannabes everywhere will find this girl still has the power to charm. --Travis Elborough

4 out of 5 stars Great Pictures!   September 28, 2007

I think that this book has great pictures of Geri. The stories are also very good but I'm still wishing that there would have been more essential information about her. Anyway, this book a must for Geri Halliwell fans.

2 out of 5 stars Disappointing   May 18, 2006

Geri's first autobiography "If Only" was a brutally honest, touching account of a lost young girl desperate for the adoration she believed that fame would bring. However, Geri's second offering reflects the fact that the lost, young girl is long gone. In her place, is a woman who clearly wants to ram home to us that she is rich, successful and only prepared to provide sound-bites suited to her "mega star" status. Genuine honesty seems to have been replaced by ridiculously egotistical glossy photo spreads. Yes, Geri looked cute during this period but we all know now that she was putting herself through hell to get there - despite preaching about her reformed eating habits. Bring back the glorious Ginger Spice of old with her tacky costumes and heartbreaking determination to change the world - Girl Power forever!

3 out of 5 stars Doesn't live up to If Only   June 21, 2004

I read If Only and couldn't put it down it was a great read so I was eager to read Just for the Record. However I was disappointed. If Only seemed to be truthful and from the heart where as eveything in Just for the Record seems to have been said before in Interviews.

I think Geri was going through a hard time when writing this and couldn't be honest with herself and this comes across in the book.

However the picture's in this hard back edition are fab so its still a must have for Geri fans.

5 out of 5 stars excellent and true   July 17, 2003

What can i say this book touched my heart she is so honest and dosen't hold anything back!! Once i picked it up i couldn't put it down. If you have read the first book you just have to read this one two but if you haven't read the first one it dosen't matter you will still be able to understand her! It gives you a real insite in to geri's life and you won't look at her as ginger spice any more because this book gives her, her own ID!!!

3 out of 5 stars not as good as if only   April 20, 2003

If Only was brilliant and I think it was going to be hard for this book to live up to the former. Considering it is a 2nd autobiography, with not much time to cover it is both, informative and entertaining. This book covers her relationship with Chris Evans, her 'friendship' with Robbie Williams and her eating disorder. She considers claims made by the media and then gives her version of the story which, is quite interesting.

Overall, I would recommend this book because it is enjoyable. It only took me a few hours to get through it! The only things I can criticise is that at some points she seems to lack modesty and appears to love herself too much. I think she could have given a more insightful discussion of her suffering from bulimia rather than just describing her binges. Good book!
