beautifully written, a caring and sensitive personal account June 10, 2002 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Like many people interested in the field of childhood deafness I had met extracts from this book in collections of writing about the experience of parenting deaf children. I am glad I had the opportunity to read the whole book. This is the account of a family meeting the challenges of bringing up two deaf daughters. Kathy Robinson gives a highly personal account of the conflicts, challenges and pleasures of her daughters childhoods from diagnosis to university. The pressures put upon the family by expectations, from professionals and from themselves, are retold in a heartwarming and encouraging way. There is no sense of self pity here but a realistic veiw of her own frustrations and successes. This is a book I would recomend to any professional who works with families, and to any parent. A really good read!
