5 out of 5 stars El Bondo   October 14, 2008
Bond has been given time off from Eton after the adventures in `Double or Die'. He has been sent with his Aunt to Mexico to get some much needed R&R. This being Bond means that action is never far away. When Bond is left with Captain Stone and his two spoilt children, Precious and JJ, he expects a month of boredom and frustration. However, this is far from the case as a group of attackers enter the house during a storm and try to kidnap the children. James, Precious and JJ must get away from the kidnapper s and find help. These are stone cold killers and if Bond and co. do not get away they will be led to a deadly island where no one ever leaves.

Having read all of Charlie Higson's `Young Bond' novels I have to say that `Hurricane Gold' is by far the best. It has everything that you could possibly want from a book for children age 8-12 (especially boys). The characters are brilliantly developed and Higson manages to create some brilliant bad guys - quirks and all. I loved the pacing of the book and the action is continuous from page 1 all the way to the conclusion. I imagine that for boys reluctant to read this book would change their minds. I have a slight misgiving over the level of violence in the book because at least 20 people die throughout it, some in a gruesome manner. However, I think in many ways this will only increase the appeal to the demographic it is aimed at. It seems that Higson is getting better at writing these novels so I cannot wait for the next thrilling instalment.

4 out of 5 stars James Bond vs Alex Rider vs Jason Steed vs Cherub   September 12, 2008
This is a great story, again Charlie Hidson has us on the egde of our seats.
The story has a very similair theme to the Young James bond book Hurricane Gold. In Skeleton Key Alex Rider and Hurricane Gold Young James Bond, both teen hereos are on a hot tropical island owned by a villian, both villians want to adopt the young teen heros, despite the youngsters trying to spoil there plans. Both villians let the boys go. However both are fast paced and good reading. Its a shame they have followed the same pathm but if you are into Alex Rider, Jason Steed, Cherub and Young James Bond this is still a great book.

5 out of 5 stars Great Book, although similair story to Alex Rider Skeleton Key   September 3, 2008
Great fast paced book, James is a true hero, the downside is the story is just like Alex Rider Skeleton Key. However that said, its probably one of the best Young James Bond book.
I cant get enough of the Young James Bond, Alex Rider, Jason Steed, Jimmy Coates and Cherub books.
10 out of 10.

4 out of 5 stars Best young bond yet   January 17, 2008

A truly fantasic book, it has good humor realistic caracters and a very good plot. This book is defiently well worth a read and my only minor critisisum would be that it is a tad predictibal and you can kind of guess what is going to happe hence the 4 stars not 5. Over a good book thats well worth a read well done charlie another great bond!

5 out of 5 stars Very well written   November 28, 2007
I thought this was excellent. I haven't read any of the Fleming novels and am by no means a James Bond fan but have been looking for something to read to my impatient nine year old which won't bore me to death and these books have fitted the bill perfectly. I've enjoyed all of them although I would say that this and Blood Fever are the best. The Eton stuff in the other books was getting a little wearing and it was entirely absent here.

What has most impressed me is how well written they are. They are clearly aimed at young readers but I think Higson writes very fluently. Certainly, purely as a writer he is superior to Anthony Horowitz although that may be something to do with the speed Horwitz must churn them out.

Heartily recommended.
