The best of maps March 25, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Whether you are visiting the Ross Sea, the Antarctic Peninsula or even South Georgia, this is simply the best general map available for an Antarctic cruise. (There is a more detailed South Georgia map in the same series.) Designed for tourist cruises, the map consists of a Continental Antarctic Map, along with details of the Antarctic Peninsula, Ross Sea and South Georgia, highlighting the areas most likely to be visited. Provided you can read a map, you will always be able to plot the route that you are taking. The map also contains a good deal of extra information of historical and other interest, so it saves carrying a good number of books with you - essential when saving that baggage allowance. It is a very well put together information map for the modern Antarctic explorer and I found it extremely useful.
Simply put, never travel on an Antarctic cruise without one!
Not a very good map May 24, 2005 23 out of 24 found this review helpful
Even though nice looking at a first glance, this is not a very good map. Usually freely supplied for Antarctic cruises from the operators, this map is good enough for just that - a cruise - and nothing more.Would have been nice with more details, but probably not possible for that price. Anyway, a good thing is that it contains some information on Antarctic research stations, historical sites and Antarctic explorers. Still, if you use this map to find out where you are on an Antarctic cruise (as I tried), you are completely lost. Last, but not least, one should buy any maps before one goes to South America to embark on a cruise as the supply there is much worse than here in the UK.
