The best ever Loiner .... in my opinion ! November 16, 2008
I've owned a 1st edition copy of The Golden Boy's book for many years and it has a prominent place in my collection. Lewis very kindly signed it for me (via Derek Hallas - yet another great Leeds Loiner) a few months ago. His account of the move from Union to League is a fascinating incite into how sports (RL) team management worked in the fifties. But for me the best section of the book is the full details of the 1957 RL Cup campaign with the pinnicle being the 9-7 win in the Final against Barrow. I was an 11 year old schoolboy in those days and I was taken to London for the first time by my school (Quarry Mount) by train for the Final on the 11th of May 1957. Those 1957 season memories of Lewis's record 496 points scoring season will live with me FOREVER !!
