4 out of 5 stars Complete, Consise, Hip   August 27, 2008

Here's a practical guidebook that isn't dry and boring!

It includes plenty of detailed info on places to see & things to do, and it's written in a lively hip style for an easy read & reference.

As an adopted local, I can tell that the tips on what to do have been thoroughly researched and tested. What's inside? You might learn about the Lavender Festivals with their colourful parades and floats, but the book will also let you in on how to discover fragrant lavender-strewn hills with a donkey, or with a bike. You'll learn about the Via Ferrata of Haute-Provence. You'll experience the scents of Grasse flowery perfumes. You'll read about the Top 5 St Tropez legendary beaches.
The highlighted activities are geared toward a young to mid-aged crowd.

The accommodation section is helpful and organized by price (Budget, Midrange, Top end). Ditto for restaurants.

My only criticism is that the book lacks in photos. Only a few are squeezed in a couple of up-front sections.

Still, it's one of my favorite local guides: complete, lively & recommended.

5 out of 5 stars A top guide for a top place   May 3, 2001

At long last I've got my hands on a well-written and lively guide to this fun part of the world. The author takes you round the region with solid assurance that this is the place to be, and gives you a real insight its culture and heritage. The recipes are a useful addition and the wine-tasting hints and wine map of the region give it something that would-be wine buffs (like me) will find useful. The pictures are pleasing and the text is accurate, and though the book is not as good a companion as my dog, it aided my trip no-end.

For something honest and often amusing, look no further.

4 out of 5 stars Sun, Sea and some very good info.   April 5, 2001

This book like the Lonely Planet France is very easy to use and is filled with a wealth of information ranging from the cheap places to stay but also the best things to see and do. Unlike other travel books it is very readable. It is well worth buying as all the information I used seemed to be bang up todate, it saved me time and money.
