3 out of 5 stars Tuscany and Umbria-- The lonely planet view   September 16, 2008

Nothing special about this book
I certainly would rave about it
Tuscany & Umbria however are a different matter!

5 out of 5 stars Wish I'd bought this BEFORE I went...   October 2, 2007

..instead of having to pay through the nose for a copy in a Sienese bookshop. As ever, LP guides have the feeling of being written by someone who's actually been there, and the advice on San Gimignano (get there early or go in Winter) would have been worth it alone.

This is an excellent guide, especially if - like us - you were roaming over both regions during your holiday. Highly recommended

3 out of 5 stars Not as comprehensive as it could be   October 19, 2005

I have used a number of Lonely Planet and Rough Guide books over the years and have always found them pretty comprehensive. The towns and cities detailed in this book are generally up to the usually high standard of Lonely Planet with maps etc. However, this book lacks a number of towns and historic sites in Tuscany, some of which are actually less tourist-crammed and more attractive than those listed.
