Spirited and good fun October 17, 2000 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Philip Gooden writes with an enviable economy of style that enables him to establish a good sense of period and character within the first few pages of his story. The slick pace of the narrative ensures that the identity of the murderer fairly soon becomes obvious but this in no way diminishes the fun. Gooden recreates the rip roaring world of Elizabethan playhouse London - all its vanity and folly and with a suitably enigmatic William Shakespeare directing the action from the wings.
