2 out of 5 stars Almost useless   February 8, 2007
This blender is pretty dreadful. If you want it to do something as seemingly easy as breadcrumbs, you have to turn it upside down, jiggle it, and coax it into co-operation. Anything less liquid than soup makes the motor burn - you can smell it. Perhaps mine is faulty, but it certainly isn't impressive.

4 out of 5 stars goodbye old friend   November 29, 2006
I bought this, my very first blender, about 3 years ago and used it every day to make smoothies. It scared the cats, it woke up the neighbours but every morning it did it's job, until, that is, yesterday when the lid broke. It does in all fairness still work if I hang onto the lid but I feel it is time to trade it in for a new model.

I did to be honest throw it in the dishwasher most days to clean so it may have lasted longer if it had been treated with more love. But it's not that easy to clean by hand if you blend things like blueberries.

If however you are looking for a good entry level blender that will crush ice, pulverise any fruit you throw at it and all with the touch of a button (which means you can wander off to calm down the cats) then this is your man!

This is my first blender. I brought it mainly to puree my baby food which I've been more than happy with. My only wish is that it had a pulse button so that you could blend things to different consistancies.

5 out of 5 stars Great little blender   April 2, 2005
This is my first blender, so I've got nothing to compare it to, but it seems like a good little blender to me. Its easy to use and to clean. It makes lovely smoothies and my puried soup was delicious. I haven't tried the ice crusher facility yet.
I was going to buy the Kenwood smoothie maker, but I saw one in Comet and it looked too big and bulky, the breville BL9 is not too big and looks good.

2 out of 5 stars Don't expect it to last   September 23, 2004

I first bought one of these blenders around 2 years ago and it served me very well. I used it every day making hummus, dips, soups, chopping herbs and carrots, blending smoothies and was always very delighted. However the base where the blade screws into the main container proved to be it's weak point. Being plastic this eventually sheared off at the crucial places meaning the blender would not fix together anymore. Thinking that maybe I had been too rough with it or I shouldn't have put this in the dishwasher - I binned the old one and went and purchased another vowing to be more careful. They had updated the design and have obviously made it even less sturdy because despite my careful handling and hand washing this one lasted one week before breaking!! If you are buying a blender for very occasional and light use this may be the one for you but if like me you use it often several times a day this is certainly not up to the job.
