Fantastic book for promoting normality March 7, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I actually never came across this book as a student but have recently bought it as a NQ midwife and wish I'd had it earlier. Denis Wash recommended it at a recent study day and its certainly given me a lot of tips and answered questions that I didn't even know I had.
There are chapters on normal labour, positions, psycho-emotional state, auscalation, monitoring progress, OP position, what to do when there's no progress, fatal malposition, prolonged labour, non-pharmalogical pain relief.
I really think this book is going to help develop my practice a lot and hopefully mean that I will become increasingly more proactive in aiding women to have the best birth expereince possible.

i have only been a student midwife for 4 months and have found this book to be a really good and easy read so much so that it has given me an insight to the complicated childbirth we are due to start next monththe toolkit at the end of the book which discuss the different positions and comfort measure are really usefull and i have been able to use this advice in my practice on placement
