5 out of 5 stars Worth the Wait   August 30, 2008
I have just finished watching this new DVD as it was given to me
for my birthday,

I have been an avid fan of Stargate for many years and suffering some
withdrawal symptoms since Virgin Media took over NTL and we lost Sky
One and subsequently I missed nearly all of series 10 and most of 8
and 9.

It is a film that can be watched in a stand-alone format, or with a
basic knowledge of Stargate. It certainly isn't a direct sequel to
the original film. However, the more you know of the team's history
the more enlightened you will be and enjoy some of the more subtle
nuances.

It's definatley a Sci-Fi action film but contains all the elements of
the classic blockbuster styles. There's a little Indiana jones, a
little Lord of The Rings, and an element of mythology along with the
gunslinging military action, humour and typical sci-fi action. At one
point there's even a little reminiscence of the Terminator.

I won't spoil it by giving the plot away but, basically SG-1 have to
save the world from not one but two deadly adversaries at the same
time as a result of the usual government dimwits thinking they know
best. The authoritarian, stubborn and typically single-minded
government agent was there to throw a spanner in the works with the
worst idea ever that could have had devastating consequences.

A lot of characters reappear from the series, as too reminders of some of the plot-lines, however it is not too difficult to slot them in. To say more would spoil it if you havent' seen it yet.

If you have not followed Stargate, but like Sci-fi or Sci-fan you
should enjoy this even on first watch, although you may need to check
out some background notes to totally get it. If you have ever watched
Stargate you will thoroughly enjoy this movie. The same old wit and
charm of the central characters is still there. Although, I do still miss O'Neil and Hammond from the early days,

I thoroughly enjoyed this film and it was definatley worth the wait!

5 out of 5 stars Kommt mit deutscher Tonspur   August 6, 2008

1 out of 5 stars A poor story stretched too far   August 1, 2008

I'm a big fan of the SG1 series and indeed the movie that the series was based on, however like many SG1 fans I found the story line of the Ori a bit thin and whilst it managed to trundle to the 10th series without too much trouble this movie should never have been made.

The story line was thin; I mean why include every possible "bad guy" in one movie? It felt like the writers/producers were sitting there saying "how can we beef this up"? "I know, let's bring the replicators back (again)"

There were good parts...the actors did a good job, apart that guy from Ally McBeal...what were they thinking when they cast him???

Sorry but I'm going to rate this movie as a zero (not allowed in Amazon so therfore it has 1 star), I'm hopeful that the other SG1 movie was better written and will even watch it when I get the chance.

Basically its just like a normal episode, but longer, with, I thought, rather too many enemies to vanguish in one go. Being a big fan of the series, I watched every single episode ever, some of of them are very good and I watched them a few times. As a movie though, I didn't feel it was worth watching twice, you could watch it once though and it still is a lot better than a plenty of movies out there. However, I did feel the whole thing was simply put together for the money. which is fair enough I suppose, but should not be that obvious. Make me feel I bought a movie with something to say! Unfortunately - it did not.
