If you don't find this funny, check your pulse quickly! November 24, 2008 Probably the funniest series ever to grace our screens, this is comic writing at its best. I also encountered the issue with the first 3 episodes not working on my player - I tried two copies, neither worked, but Amazon were great as always and refunded me.
Never have I laughed so much, or so hard, for so long October 13, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I love Tamsin Greig. I love Mac. I love this.
Green Wing to me is just one of the most perfect comedies out there. The comic timing is unbelievable, and the cast is one of the strongest I've ever seen.
Long Live Green Wing.
Absolutely bloody fantastic September 29, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Imagine a British version of Scrubs, and you're almost 75% there. Only scrap the sentimentality, scrap the pretty cast, and inject some series surreality. Now I know, Scrubs has surreality, but it is always kept firmly behind the curtain of imagination. In Green Wing, the crazy stuff genuinely happens, and no one makes any concessions to make it plausible. Crude, subtle, and epicly British, this is a must see for all fans of good British comedy. Anyone who can watch Mark Heap truly master his craft and not be crippled laughing is truly one with no soul.
Genius writing and delivery August 24, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Having chanced upon the very beginning of the first episode when it was first aired I became hooked, cancelling appointments that might conflict with subsequent airings.
The writers are developing ideas which are taking the sit-com genre to a rib-bustingly painful new level.
Many things combine to translate a good script into a good product. All of these are in evidence in Green Wing Series 1 [2004]. I find myself watching and re-watching the DVD's thinking, "That's a clever way to shoot that bit" and "I wonder if that was written or improvised". It's hard to tell because there is so much talent in evidence at any one time.
I am a fan, so I apologise if I sound a little too fanatical. I am trying to be objective, but Green Wing is so well done and so different to anything else on offer I find it hard to restrain my memories of it when reviewing it for others.
Just buy it! Take the phone off the hook and try to watch just one episode at a time. Bet you can't.
Make sure you've enough left in the bank for the second series. And the Special. And your own Penny Whistle.
I love it, but this also comes with a warning!!! August 7, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've only just discovered this show via Four on demand, you can watch all of the episodes for free there, I only watched the first episode of this series and the first two of series 2 and I knew that I'd enjoy the rest, which is the case.
I came across a strange problem with this series, on the first disc it would not allow me to select an episode, I could select/watch the deleted scene no problem at all, the other 2 discs worked with no problems at all, the first disc does work in my other 2 DVD players though, so hopefully not many other people will endure this small inconvenience, or large if you have no other means of playing the first 3 episodes.
Outrageous is the one word I'd use for this series, where comic actors can and do do just about anything for a laugh, expect totally over the top comedy with I guess alot of generally childish humour, but I've no problems with that, if you have a broad sense of humour then I'm sure that at least 90% of people will love this, if not then it's best left alone for the rest of us to enjoy.
I've tried to watch Scrubs, but for me Green Wing far outstrips that, I honestly don't know what comedy to compare this to, so I won't, but the Office or Scrubs this isn't, at least not for me anyway.
