Editorial Reviews:

The Philips Wake-Up Light Alarm Clock is fantastic. I have been using it everyday for the last two weeks. Although the function is fairly simple it works well. I hate mornings and I don't particularly like winter so I was keen to give this a try. It basically slowly wakes you up by increasing the light intensity over a 30 minute period, this works really well. The light itself is very powerful, you can alter the settings to any intensity you want. I picked the highest so that at the end of the 30 minutes it is like having sunlight streaming through the window.

I used to wake up with a jolt to my mobile phone alarm but the Philips Wake-Up Light Alarm Clock really allows you to wake up naturally and slowly. I've been using the alarm beep setting during the week just to make absolutely sure I catch my train; I have tried all the alarms, beeping, radio, running water and dawn chorus (which is my favourite). The birds start of imperceptibly and increase in sound so you wake to sunshine and birds - very nice. The biggest thing for me is that by the time you wake up and are conscious you don't feel like rolling over and going straight back to sleep again you are awake enough to get straight out of bed.

You can use the light on its own as a bed side light. You can select both light intensity easily and also loudness of sound. Setting the alarm is also very easy, in fact the whole operation is very simple, you could easily dispense with the instruction manual and just use the quick start guide that comes separately. And should you still need to you can snooze the Philips Wake-Up Light Alarm Clock too (although I haven't needed this option). --Jeremy Paterson, Amazon.co.uk

1 out of 5 stars Disappointed   December 1, 2008
After reading the reviews i was looking forward to using this product. I have been using this for about 3 weeks. As i work shifts and have to get up very early in the dark i was hoping to wake up much more easily. I haven't. I still want to stay in bed and On 2 occasions i haven't woken up at all. luckily my partner woke me up otherwise i would have been late for work. I am going to sell this product. I'm not saying it won't work for you but after spending 65 pounds i was expecting more.

1 out of 5 stars Alarm Clock of the 21st Century????   November 28, 2008

I have used this type of Wake-Up light for more than a year now and, fortunately so, it's currently superseded by a new version.

This Wake-Up light was a very frustrating experience. The radio was full of noise (wherever I placed the unit), the timer made lots of loud "clicks and clacks", awaking you before you should and not in a gentle way... There were many many more complaints about this unit...

When I read about the new edition/version, I searched for reviews and found out that Philips seemed to have solved most issues. I then bought the new version, which I have some weeks now and wrote another review about the new unit, here on Amazon.

4 out of 5 stars Does the Job   November 17, 2008

Hi,
I have now used this product for 1 week. The product is shipped from Netherlands. You would have to first read the guide to install it first time. It never occurred to me that the bulb would be inside the casing. I was looking for it outside in box (silly me .. ).

I agree with other reviewers that the build of the product could definitely be better. The controls are old fashioned, but I guess the important thing is to wake up in the morning feeling refreshed and without cramps and refreshed. At 60 its a bargain and worth the money. Do get one and you will not be disappointed.

I have had a lot of problems in winter to get up in the morning. This product has indeed changed my life.

Warning : If you do get up at 6:00 in the morning , you will feel sleepy and drowsy by 9:00 in the evening. I guess this has nothing to do with the wake up clock.

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant!   November 14, 2008

I really can't fault this Phillips wake up light because it is just wonderful. Originally i bought the lumie elite 300 light costing 139.99. It was rubbish and so not worth the money so i sent it back. Then i really did my research to make sure i wouldn't be dissapointed again and found this light. I'm so glad i did. I have had it for only one day but i am alraedy raving about it to everyone i know.
The light does get very very bright at its highest setting so there is no chance of sleeping in. But there are five sound setting as a back up just in case. The radio, beeping, birdsong, ocean and frogs.
This product is not cheap and plastic as others have suggested and i really think i got value for money here. The light can be used as a bedside light at low or high level and also as a dawn simulator that starts of low and gets brighter. You can also dim the clock display so it doesn't disturb you at night, which is brilliant.
The sounds are all great and most of the radio stations i listen to, pick up perfectly. Only a bit of interference on some, but i'm not buying tis for the radio quality so it doesn't really matter.
If you are considering buying a dawn simulator/wake up light, then this is definately the one to buy. Don't be fooled into thinking you have to pay a fortune. Because honestly, the lumie lamp i first bought which was nearly 140, was really not worth it at all. It shows that you don't always get what you pay for.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic - like summer in your room   November 13, 2008

Nobody likes being woke from the land of nod, but this does it fantastically. The gradual build up of light and the fade in of sound wakes up, rather then jolts you awake like most usual alarm clocks. I feel better once awake, perhaps even happier because of the light build up.
I can only say that this is fantastic, worth every penny.
