1 out of 5 stars Dangerous, definitely not fit for purpose.   June 22, 2008

I've only tried this sauna belt twice but it's enough to confidently advise it's not fit for purpose, and worse, it's even dangerous.

This item is meant to be used for a 50 min session; first by switching to max for 5 mins then down to a lower level for the remaining 45 mins.

The first time I tried it I got my mug of tea (hot drinks are recommended to help the sweat process), switched on the belt, and got comfy on my back on my bed and read a book, it got a bit awkward holding the book aloft but it passed the time.

At the end my belly looked like it had been griddled (not an even reddened glow as would be expected), the red lines indicating the position of the pad's heating elements were clearly visible - but I hadn't lost any inches, not even a ", and through the process I hardly sweated even though I'd set the dial to 80%.

Nonetheless, at this time I still thought "perhaps it has applications as a heat pad to treat injuries". I don't think that now...

Yesterday, I tried the sauna belt again, in the same place, and with another mug of tea(!), but this time I laid on my front to read my book. Again, after the first 5 mins at max I reduced the dial to 80%, but this time it felt hotter (I figured that was because the extra insulation from my mattress).

Fortunately, at the hour stage I was interrupted by a neighbour needing help. I took off the sauna belt and again it had left the same griddled effect across my belly from the heating elements, only this time more pronounced as there even appeared a couple of raised bits of skin, like weals.

5 hours later and the red griddle markings were still plainly evident across my belly but I noticed 2 of the weals looked like they were blistering!

Now, 24 hours later, it can clearly be seen the vast majority of redness had gone and the raised skin has gone down, except in the few inch long marks that still remain, but one of which contains a very prominent blister, nearly 1 cm long!

This is a cheap and nasty product, and possibly very dangerous too - considering I only wore it for 60% of the recommended time.

(It's perhaps trivial to mention this also, but for completeness of the review, the supplied measuring tape's not calibrated properly - what it claims is 45" is actually 59" - when I measured my belly with it, it said it was 31" - but if that were true, I wouldn't have bought this contraption in the first place).

Adding insult to actual injury, I didn't lose anything from my waist. Protect yourself and don't waste your money.
