4 out of 5 stars Foreman Roaster   April 9, 2006

This was a wedding present, and initially I was sceptical that it would earn counter top space in our small kitchen. It has proved its worth; roast chicken comes out crispy skinned and very juicy, even though it gets rid of a huge amount of fat via the trays that slide underneath. The bird needs to be 1.5 kgms or under, so its best as an appliance for 2/3 people. Easy to clean - lightly oil the nonstick surface first, and use damp paper towels to wipe it when its cooling. It's great if you don't want to heat the main oven, economical and fast. only one temperature so the repertoire is limited by that, but have cooked salmon in foil, lamb, and beef with good results - smaller joints don't dry out as they normally would. The digital timer display is failing a bit, though the timing is still accurate. Would give this 5 stars but for that. Recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Space-efficient cooker for the Sunday Joint   June 26, 2004

The Foreman Contact Roaster is about the size of an American football helmet (which it slightly resembles) and works thusly:

The lid opens to reveal an inner compartment with a drain. The top and bottom are lined with Teflon. The roast goes in, the heating elements behind the Teflon-lined contact surfaces are heated up when you turn on the roaster and allow it to come up to temp. Close the lid and the roast happily cooks, draining fat down the hole and into a plastic drip pan shoved underneath.

There is an accessory baking pan that covers the drain hole. Its oval shape makes it convenient to bake a pudding or roast potatoes, stew meat or make a fish dish. For a small kitchen (we were living in a hotel suite when we bought it) this roaster is superb. And it makes a juicy cooked pork or lamb roast, because the heat is concentrated on the food and the moisture is not lost in a larger oven compartment.

This is just plug-and-cook, no temperature settings, etc. We tried roasted pork dusted with herbs and pepper and it came out wonderfully well. The roast garlic potatoes with sausage we tried next, in the pan, were very nice, indeed. If you live in a holiday caravan, a small flat or have limited kitchen space--even no oven at all, the Foreman Roaster is quite versatile. You can even bake a pan of brownies or cornbread. We like it a lot, and it was a real help for us in that long stay at a hotel suite. Now that we're back home, we still use it quite happily.

5 out of 5 stars Great for Joints of Meat   January 19, 2004

Me being a bloke I was very unsure when I purchased this for the first time, but I should not have been it cooks joints of meat to perfection.
I have since purchased another 4 for members of my family.
Although please be aware that the size of the joints are not really as big as the manufacturers claims at least I don't think so.I have cooked stews, eggs & sausages combined also vegetables in the tray supplied as well, these take longer than if you were boiling them but the taste is really good. Be patient with this product and experiment and I'm certain you will enjoy it.
