Best Ever John Denver Album! June 18, 2008 The Wildlife Concert album has to be the best John Denver album ever released, its definitely my favourite. I love the choice of songs for this concert and the musical arrangement of the songs, which sound so different to previous versions recorded. The musicians in John's band for this concert is superb. If you don't own a John Denver album and are wondering which one to get first - then make this album your first choice.
A very secret review. April 27, 2006 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I almost hate myself for writing this as John Denver --intentionally or not--was to become the safer-than-safe housewives choice, and will forever be associated with the kind of warm, cosy and unthreatening American country music that merges with dreams of unpolished pine and designer Shaker furniture. Millions of UK listeners have baked imaginary 'biscuits and grits' while playing his songs, trekking through the backwoods of their minds to meet the kind of humble Grizzly Adams caricatures that could exist only on daytime TV. In short, Denver brought with him a legion of dreadful cliches , and yet (God forgive me) his voice and song writing ability were completely incredible in combination.
Denver generated real emotion and had that rarest of talents, i.e. the wit to write true poetry while also writing true music. Somewhere between unsentimental and purely sentimental visions of his life, the history of his homespun part the USA and the world he revered, he can lift the listener and take them along for the ride without the kind of pretension that would destroy most efforts to do so today. This is more or less one man, one guitar and something incredible arising between them. I hesitate to call it art but what the hell else are you supposed to call it? The experience is absolutely mesmerising and the depth of feeling is both intense and fragile.
So...Denver will remain a joke to the mainstream, a legend to the few and something hardly considered to many others. For myself he will be a guilty pleasure that I'll probably wax lyrical about when I've had one too many, only to deny the same in the morning while hiding the playlist of my MP3 player from my cooler-than-thou friends.
A thorough 10 out of 10 but...please...don't tell anybody.
This collection sums up the John Denver ethos December 13, 2000 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This CD features John Denver at his best, singing about things close to his heart and with the audience participating and lapping it up. It features some of his less known works and some of his most poignant songs like the beautiful 'For you' and the heart rendering 'Falling out of love'. 'Darcy Farrow' One of his early ballads only previously to be found on his origional 'Rocky Mountain High' album also features and the resulting audience applause sayes it all. This is the John that his long time fans know and love, admiring him for his ethos, adoring him for his unique voice and sharing his thoughts and aspirations with every note. There are much loved favourites, sing alongs and classics but as a whole this album is John Denver.
A DEFINATE FOR ALL "JD" FANS January 27, 2000 If you believe you have got all John Denver tracks, this is a must if you love the song "For you". John is at his best at singing this, along with the rest of the live performance. You will want to keep playing it over and over...happy listening. David Lambert
