5 out of 5 stars One the best live albums EVER !!!   May 10, 2003

This is simply a fantastic live set. Denver has such a rapport with his audience it's as if he's on first name terms with each member. Everyone is his personal friend.

This album has a lot of songs on it from "Back Home Again", which was (I think) the studio album he had last released, so was probably promoting. However, my all-time favourite song of Denvers is here too and, apart from that, "Rocky Mountain Suite (Cold NIghts In Canada)", "Farewell Andromeda", "Matthew", "Today" and "Boy From The Country" are, for me, the stand-out tracks, but it is a mega-wonderful selection. He sings brilliantly and has a stellar group of musicians accompanying him.

This is a glorious testament to a man who was somewhat underrated and was given a hard time for written songs with some emotion (some would call it schmaltz) attached to them. Ignore all of that - if you like Denver, or just some of his songs, go and buy this. You won't be disappointed. Magnificent.

5 out of 5 stars Live is the best   April 1, 2003

I always felt that there was something missing about all of the 'studio' tracks that John ever did. To me, they sounded like a guy and his guitar playing really good songs. This album shows John Denver at his best; in front of an audience and with an orchestra. This re-vamped CD brings out the rapport that Denver had with his audience. You can even hear the 'Yeah grandma' response far clearer than on the old tape version. The arrangements by Lee Holdridge add sounds and meaning to the words and tunes. John is allowed to just sing his beliefs and let someone else deal with the music. I wore out my tape. I know all of the words. After 20 odd years, my kids have to hear me sing them. Even the 'Far out'. By all means buy the albums, but if you want atmosphere and John Denver at his absolute, soul searching best, then this is it.

5 out of 5 stars Top-Drawer Live Album from one of country's greatest.   February 26, 2002

This album took our whole family across the U.K. in the late seventies; it was deleted from stock, and now it's back in. And what an album it is.

The innocence of longing for the simple life comes through every song, and when John Denver says "Peace, my friends" at the end of one song, it doesn't sound cheesy; you know that's how he felt.

Every time I listen to this, it makes me laugh and cry. It is wonderful. If you like country, you must like John Denver; and if you like John Denver, you simply must have this album. A gem.

5 out of 5 stars It's live and still fresh, with that special innocense.   November 30, 2001

This was first John Denver album that I bought, way back in 1976. And I can truthfully say, that in my opinion, it's a true live classic. The CD includes the 'complete' originally released recording, made in Los Angeles during late Aug'74, and in addition has 5 previously unreleased tracks tacked on at the end. Unlike earlier CD release of 'evening with John Denver' which had tracks missing. It's one of only two vinyl albums that I have replaced with CD, its just that good, and I've been listening to it for the last 25 years. In words of John Denver 'Far Out .......'
