5 out of 5 stars Excellent and beats all others to date   October 26, 1999

Well, it has been much hyped but it is all true. This beats all other european guides by a significant margin. There are some quibbles: the finches etc are really far too fluffy, and the picture of the Robin is bizzare. But no matter. The songs and calls are extremely well notated, even though the pronounciation takes some getting used too. Many pictures for each species. Very information dense. It is so good that I use it for UK birding too, in preference to my many UK specific field guides. Buy it.

15 years in the making Has it been Worth the Wait?...Yes definately! If you buy just 1 book a year then make sure that its this one. Stunning drawings by the worlds finest bird illustrators..and it shows..check out the plates on tern,Skuas, and the Ducks...not forgetting the Finches and Crossbills. WOW an excellent book that REALLY is a Field Guide to be used in the Field...BRILLIANT.
