Oh dear... August 29, 2008 I've read every one of his books and as a genuine fan I am genuinely upset to think the man's powers have definitely waned. The subject matter is daft and really spoils what has gone before in the Egyptian series. Nonetheless all dedicated WS fans (like me) will want to read it - I guess they'll make up their own minds....
It's not River God August 28, 2008 Taita is with us again but this time I was not swept along.
Something about Wilbur Smith's Egyptian novels make you believe they just could be true. This one doesn't hit the mark. Without spoiling the plot, the "escapades" of Taita are verging on silly.
A truly disappointed fan, I'm afraid to say...
Super Egyptian series August 24, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have read every book by wilbur smith on the EGYPTIAN SERIES and I loved every single one of them. The way he describes the epic scenes just lets your imagination run wild,I'm very surprised that some reviews are a bit negative, but if you like exciting epic adventures then these books are for you.
an average quest August 22, 2008 I can say I am a Smith fan after reading all the courtney books and this Egyptian series I can catergoratly say this was the most disapointing read of all those books. The story was looking promising but it turned out to be VERY predictable and hence I felt I was ready for readings sake. If you're new to Smith I suggest reading The Leopard Hunts in Darkness or Golden Fox or Seventh Scroll for a truely inspiring read.
Whats happened to Wilbur? June 30, 2008 I shall start by saying i loved the "Courtney" books and also "river god" and "seventh scroll" all brilliant gripping tales. This newest however must surely be as bad as it gets and things must improve. Smith seems to have taken in his last two books a character who although fictional was at least believable and has attempted to move him to a world of high fantasy Nothing wrong with high fantasy mind you but it has to be done well and this isn't. Massively upset by the turn in this series.
