5 out of 5 stars Give it a go!!!   April 6, 2008

Before I purchased this book I would say that I used every excuse for why I couldnt exercise. But after being recommended this book I decided to give it a go. Well Im now on week six and getting up at six o'clock (usually unheard of)most mornings and throughly enjoying the whole experience.Im not claiming to be the next Zola Budd but I am feeling quite pleased with myself that for once I can stop using those excuses.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic!   March 25, 2008

I bought this book earlier this year as I wanted to get fit and healthy without any extreme dieting. It has fantastic advice on getting started and taking you from lazy to fit in a matter of months.

I'm in the 7th week of my 60 second plan and I feel great. A lot of people think running is as easy as slipping on your trainers and running a few miles, but if your starting out, it's far from that.

If your commited, this book can also take you to competing in races, even the marathon within a year. I'm already confident enough that i'll be running in the London marathon 2009.

This book has helped my running so much, and can do the same for you,
BUY IT!

5 out of 5 stars It's simple but that's the beauty of it!   February 13, 2008

I've always fancied being a runner; striding effortlessly along, mind and body in perfect harmony. The reality is that I'm overweight and not as fit as I should be. On my infrequent attempts to start, I've set off full of enthusiasm only to grind to a halt literally minutes later, feeling as if I'm about to vomit and humiliated by the whole experience, never to venture out again.

Now I know that the 60 second plan isn't rocket science and I know that a long t-shirt will cover my wobbly bits; I know all of this in the same way that I know if I eat less than I need I'll lose weight. That's all very well but turning into practice is another thing entirely.

This book gave me the motivation and the tools to get out there. Because it was simple, I didn't feel like a failure; I actually managed to complete what I set out to do. 10 weeks later and I'm going to enter my first 5k fun run with a view to completing 10k by the end of the year. Not bad for someone who couldn't run after the bus 3 months ago.

If you want to run but don't know how to start and need motivation, this book is for you! If you already run and want to know how to maximise your carbs to enhance your performance, it's probably not.

1 out of 5 stars too simplistic and for women!   January 8, 2008

Now don't get me wrong, this book does have a value but it was not really of much interest to me. It is totally written for women and in a way I found rather patronising and simplistic. I didn't read it as much as scan it for useful information which difficult to find. There were very few facts that were explained in sufficient detail as to make this an interesting and beneficial read, in fact, many other running books would cover the "actual" information in this book in about 20 pages - so my advice would be to look elsewhere if you want interesting facts and guidance on running. However, if you are inspired by overweight people running and losing weight then this is your book (there are pages of such stories!), but really, do they need so many such examples to help inspire and introduce us to running? I guess we all want something different from a running book and I really didn't find it here.

If you are the sort of person that needs to be told about the virtues of wearing lycra shorts and encouraged further by advice to wear an over sized t-shirt to hide any unsightly bumps then this is for you. If, on the other hand, you want truely interesting and informative advice on running look at other more intelligent books.

I did buy this book for my partner and it did help her as a initial guide to running, but she is already moving on to other running books that I own, books that are significantly better. How this is a top seller on the subject or running I will never know, it is slightly worrying!
