Great for beginners . October 10, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I love this book, not only has it helped me improve my fitness but it has opened a whole new world to me. The plans and advice might be basic to an experienced runner but for a beginner like me they were so valuable. Even now I have progressed along the plans I still re-read other people's stories for motivation, and use the book to look back and see how far I have come. The book also includes a training plan for half-marathon and marathona, so although aimed at beginners it does allow you to go as far as you want to.
If you think you are not a runner but want to give it a go then I think this is a fantastic book.
not that great... September 28, 2007 9 out of 17 found this review helpful
After reading all the rave reviews here and wanting to know more about my hobby, I purchased this book.
I read it cover to cover in about 2 hours!
I would say maybe as much as 70% of this book is simply testimonials from people that have started running and lost weight!
All the information regarding the "60 second secret", that the authors keep going on about, can be read in around 2 minutes and is easily searchable online!
The rest of the book is common sense stuff! There's minimal information regarding diet and health, if they were more in depth with regards to that I would have given the book a better rating.
If I had to recommend this book to a certain pool of people it would only be complete couch potatoes, people who have never exercised. Anyone that has already taken the initiative and started running should avoid this book completely... as you'll already know everything it has to offer!
There are much better books out there!
Running made SOOOO easy! September 19, 2007 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
I entered a 5k fun run two years ago and I was shocked at my inability to run most of it! I thought at 23 years old that running 2.5 miles should be easy. It wasn't. I bought this book eight weeks ago after trying to get into running on my own, and failing. This book starts you off very easily, so I started on week 5 as I'd done a bit of running previously. Now I can run for 40 mins and can run a 5k very easily. I feel fitter, I've lost weight and running is actually a true hobby now that I do 3-4 times a week. It picks up your mood and I even feel happier! It's led to lifestyle changes of healthy eating, giving up caffeine and generally trying to look after myself better.
Soooooo easy, and soooooooo recommended! Buy it!
The BEST book for new runners! August 16, 2007 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
I've been recommending this book to so many people, so I thought I'd leave a review here. This book is well written, absolutely packed with useful information, and fun! My favourite part of the book are the testimonials by runners which include "before and after" photos! Among the testimonials are several people who were quite overweight when they started running, and one woman who started running in her 70s and is still running in her 90s. You find yourself reading these and thinking, "Well I've got no excuses then!"
Thanks to the inspiration in this book, I am now running 45 minute and hour-long runs which I never would have thought possible before.
Great book!
A new body awaits you!!! June 22, 2007 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
I bought this book when i had a hang over one morning and felt fat.... I read the reviews and felt inspired from the reviews...
I read the book a few days ago when it arrived and i couldnt put it down, its has all the target plans you can write in and lots of stories of how others who have never ran before managed to end up doing marathons!
After i read this book i believe i can run a marathon im only 2 days into the 60 minute secret plan but feel i can do it form just readng the book! This is the 1st step to me losing weight for ever and being able to eat what i like... if you run you can have fun!
Buy thi sbook is all i can say - especially if you have never excercised before!!!!
