This book has broken through all my barriers and taught me to run September 18, 2006 33 out of 33 found this review helpful
I have never been able to run, and have always hated the fact. Being large of figure, the idea of pounding the pavements has been daunting. Nevertheless, I saw this book, for some reason bought it, and with much excitement and trepidation, tried the 10 week running plan they reccommend for all beginners. As of yesterday, I completed this plan, and can run (and walk) for 40 minutes or 5km, something I never saw myself doing in July. I can honestly say, this book has opened a sport to me, and I am mad, keen, and enthusiastic because of it! It breaks everything down into achievable steps, and by doing this, it's suceeded in converting me. Can't praise it enough!
This is more than a 'how to run' guide June 15, 2006 18 out of 18 found this review helpful
It's a truly inspirational book, and as you read through, it leaves you raring to go.
The book is full of inspirational stories from people from all walks of life - my favourite being the lady who started running in her 70s! It also has lots of useful tips on running techniques (from the like of Paula Radcliffe), other ways to increase fitness, running gear, and the best way to fuel yourself.
Of course, it also contains all the practical information that guides you through assessing your fitness and targets, and training plans to guide you through 5K, 10K, and marathons runs - even if you are totally unfit to start ;0)
I'll be running my first 5K race next month, and this book has been a great help, both practically and motivationally.
Absolutely brilliant May 14, 2006 20 out of 20 found this review helpful
I saw this book and thought who needs a book to learn how to run. I then saw a good review on it and ordered it just to see what there is to learn. Well, it's absolutely brilliant. Fantastically laid out, great 'get you started' plans, motivational stories, equipment recommendations. It also has great ideas for weight loss and the whole book is so clear . I recommended it to another friend and we are now both building up our running together and are aiming for a half marathon. Of all the fitness books I have ever bought this really is the best and most motivational, I can guarantee it will make you want to start running before you have finished the book.
This book works! April 23, 2006 17 out of 17 found this review helpful
This book has achieved the impossible - getting me to stick to an exercise programme week after week after week, and not only running regularly, but enjoying it too!
I have been sedentary for most of my life, with a job that entails long hours either behind a computer or in the car covering the UK. I bought Running Made Easy in January 2006, and finished the 10 week plan last month, celebrating my success by running 5k in 34 minutes. I have signed up for the Run London 10k run, this years' Race for Life and The Crisis Square Mile Run (both 5k) in June, and am really looking forward to all of them.
If you want to get fit, have fun and learn to run, this book is for you.
inspirational! March 6, 2006 17 out of 17 found this review helpful
I couldn't recommend this book highly enough. Basically, with the help of this book, I went from overweight and never moving off the couch to my first marathon in a year! I had already lost a good bit of weight and was struggling with the last stone, I knew I needed to step up my exercise routine, I loved this book so much and read it twice, I used to be afraid to be seen running but reading the stories of others in similar situations got me out there. Last October I completed my first marathon and this month is my one year anniversary of being a runner! As suggested in the book - I'll be celebrating this achievement, but not with food!
