Weak storyline and writing June 8, 2008 6 out of 8 found this review helpful
I didn't enjoy Cecilia Aherne's last book so hoped this one would be better and was sorely disappointed. The plot was very thin and unoriginal and being pregnant myself I could not understand how the main character could move on so quickly. It all just seemed too easy and formulaic. I won't be buying any more of CA's books - bland and boring.
So Funny June 8, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Went on my honeymoon and bought the book while in Malta Spent days laughing at the beach...Quite a serious undertone, with tragic outcome, and illness, but I think Cecelia really brings out the essence of comedy in the relationship between Joyce and her father. I was reading outloud to my husband, while laughing as I pictured them out and about in Dublin and London...I am so impressed with her quality of writing and cannot wait for more!

I absolutely loved all Cecelia's last books but just could not get into this one at all. Whereas all previous books had been totally original this plot about memories of someone else following a blood transfusion has been done many times before on film/tv. Which leads me to believe that perhaps Cecelia's agent had an agenda ( forgive me if I am wrong)...for Cecelia to write a book that will make a good film and yes this probably will, but the main character will need tweaking. I just didn't warm to her or like her. The only really likeable character in the book was as other people have said - the dad. This wasn't the usual Cecelia formula, the usual sprinkle of make believe and magic wasn't there, but I'm still a fan and will be looking foward to her next book regardless.
Thanks Cecilia June 1, 2008 I love this woman!! Read every book (3 or 4 times except this one just finished it) I love her writing, it is fun, touching and each one totally pulls you in. When you read this, as with all her books, you almost become the character. I love how she writes in a way that is easy and enjoyable to read, yet you cant put it down. This book is particularly fabulous. The only problem i would say it has is the fact i couldnt put it down long enough to make it last more than 3 days. Bring on the next one!
she's done it again May 29, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Well what did you expect really. Cecelia Ahern is definitely one of the great novellists of our time and she pulls off another amazing story with Thanks for the Memories. It is one of those books that makes you laugh and cry yet it is completely orignal and different as all her books are! Once again another one that is far fetched but hey everyone needs a little make-believe in their lifes still and isnt that the magic of fantastic stories we know and love?!
This is truely a remarkable novel and I recommend it to anyone and everyone! The only reason I haven't given it 5 stars was just that I have read better books by her and also other authors.
