Very good book! July 2, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I loved this book soooo much, the film was good but no way near as good as the book.
Atrocious! avoid at all costs June 19, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
I am at a loss to understand how this book has received the praise it has and such a huge advance for it's author. The basic idea of the book is a great one. The greatness ends there. The writing is absolutely abysmal. No money could convince me to re-read it.
Absolutely dreadful June 16, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
I'm mystified as to why this badly written book became a best seller. The dull and plodding prose would appear to have been written by a twelve year old with absolutely no insight into grief and bereavement. Trite, boring and unbelievable characters inhabit a poorly plotted story. Exceptionally bad.
Absolutley fantastic June 5, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I found this book while looking on amazon for some good "chicklit" books to take away to college with me, I read the reviews and it sounded like a good book so I bought it. The reviews do not give it enough credit, from the very begining it has a flood of emotions. I immediatly fell in love with the characters and could not put it down, As I had exams I was revising during the day and would go to bed early so I could read more. Every night I would read it and be in fits of laughter and also sadness at the characters struggle to come to terms with the death of her husband, but the husband helps her and guides her through the first 10 months of the start of her life without him. I am currently letting my mum borrow it so she can enjoy such a wonderful book. I would recommend this book to anyone who like a good Chicklit book. I cannot wait to read some more of Cecelia Ahern books.
My favorite author May 31, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
If you're a Ceclia Ahern fan, then you know what I'm about to say. If you're not one, wait. I'd start with another book of hers before this one and DON'T SEE THE MOVIE!!!!!! Try IF YOU COULD SEE ME NOW or even THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES before reading P.S. I LOVE YOU.
My reasons? This is still a good book, but it's not her best. And it's not like her other works at least in my mind. While I LOVE this author, I did find the writing style a bit repetitive and felt like she had "dumbed-down" some of the book. This opinion came after reading her other works first. So my recommendation is to start with something else and then go back to this if you want.
This was Ahern's first book and you can't fault her for not getting it just right, but it is still an okay novel.
