Looking for Mr. Right July 7, 2008 I warmed to Lucy straight away, and her weird assortment of friends, I could have done with a little less of Gus though, the most annoying character in the book I was longing for her to dump him. Her efforts to take care of her alcoholic father were really touching, and you kind of knew the perfect man was right under her nose all along.
Predictable nonsense but just about readable February 13, 2008 Expected a quick easy read - although over 700 pages in a book is never going to be quick...... The whole book has a light and fluffy view of a 20s something's life in the big city which feels like it has been done too many times. The book was very predictable but had an interesting dimension added with the main character's depression and her ways of dealing with it. I have read quite a few Marian Keyes books and she has improved over the years. As her second book this is not a particularly good book - it still has a very naive approach and follows a well used mould. Her later books use similar themes but somehow do it in a more exciting way.
really good July 11, 2007 1 out of 6 found this review helpful
it started off slow at first but then it picked speed up and became quite good. It was a bit predictable that she got with Daniel but it was nice to see how they got together in the end. As for Karen I would have slapped her by now - her character annoyed me so much but it shows that Marian can make her characters come to life definite recommendation
irritatingly unputdownable May 19, 2007 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I only started reading again when I became pregnant. Reading Pauline Mc Glynn books (FANTASTIC). So I thought I'd try another Irish author, being Irish myself. I found this book very easy to read, even with a new baby. But being a strong minded, stubborn, don't stand for any crap, Irish woman I found the central character unbelievably annoying. She was pathetic and like many of the other reviewers I too wanted to slap her. But I think thats what kept me reading, see how the other half lives so to speak!! All in all it provided great escapism and a pleasing end to my frustrations.
I love it December 20, 2006 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
This is the one that started it all. I saw bits of it on TV and wanted more. Eventually found book and read everything i can find by Marion Keyes. I love her books but this one will always be the best for me!
