great photography April 2, 2006 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
if you are looking for amazing photography or great inspiration in creating your own little piece of mother nature this book is the one. the reason that i have given 4 star rating to it is because unfortunately the book contains no information whatsoever about the species of the plants used in Amano's creations.

seeing is believing with this book. the photographs are wonderful and the tanks themselfs will take your breath ago, you'll be sick with enve at the plant and the fish desplays. I have all three of Takashi Amano Nature Aquarium Books and can not wait until the next one comes out.

A superb book, ought to be an essential reference ! January 24, 2000 15 out of 17 found this review helpful
This is the first volume in a three volume set by Takashi Amano. In this volume are numerous stunning photographs of 'nature aquariums' filled with thriving aquatic plants and fish. The author has attempted to recreate a 'natural', but at the same time aesthetically pleasing, environment in aquariums of all sizes from tiny to massive. The volume also contains the authors notes on setting up such aquariums, and interspersed with the photographs, observances on life and the environment(comic, profound, or merely trite). Reading this volume is guarenteed to get the dedicated aquarium keeper itching to recreate such beautiful aquascapes, but I felt it would have been nice to have some clearer guidance from the author on how to do this. If one was looking for flaws the scientific nomeclature is also not in keeping with the views of contempory 'authorities'on the subject. However, overall I would say this is one of my favourite aquatic books of all time.
A superb collection of photographs of 'nature aquariums' January 24, 2000 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
This is part of a three volume set by the Japanese aquatic 'gardener' Takashi Amano. Volume II explores the possibilites with small aquariums. Possibly it isn't as useful as volume I, as it lacks much of the information in that book, and the scientific nomeclature throughout the series is not in keeping with contemporary 'authorities'. Even so, it is worth buying for the beautiful photographs and for inspiration.
