4 out of 5 stars Good general text   May 18, 2004

I got this book to be a general starting and reference text - As that, it's very good. It's written clearly and well indexed with lots of nice pretty pictures.
Being a general text, it does only go into limited detail, but that's not a problem if it's used as a starting point to get an overview of neuropsychopharmacology. I'd imagine it would be excellent for undergraduates in medicine or any biomedical science.
There are some slightly misleading generalisations about psychiatric illnesses, and the animal models discussed aren't critiqued as completely as they might be, but these are relatively minor complaints. It's the most user-friendly textbook I've found in the area and it's usually clear where you need to read more for a deeper understanding.
