No Earl, No Rock n' Roll June 9, 1999 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
First, let me say that the " vibe " of the text is very real. No prettied-up coffee table type language. It's like Earl is talking to you. Much of the text feels like a conversation with all the stops , starts, asides and little word plays you find inconversation. And this makes the words jump off the page. I was laughing in the 1st few seconds after I opened the book and dove in. The man is funny, tells it like it is and says what he wants the way he wants to. His stories about growing up are priceless and if you are a musician or a music lover his musician stories alone are worth the price of the book, and then some. He is so important as a musician that to sy No Earl, No Rock n' Roll is no exaggeration. He refined and encapsulated the BEAT in RnR. And being from New Orleans didn't hurt either. His stories about growing up there are fantastic. BTW he's still going strong and gigging. Played on a B.B. King record recently. Buy this book. Read it. Learn from it. I love it.
