Fantastic y Educational and Fun June 1, 2005 49 out of 49 found this review helpful
This is an amazing, beautiful book. It looks at the world as a garden, looking at plant life and in particular how different plants are used. Highlights include a page showing a garden with a pull-up that shows different plants and what they are used for; a page of lift the flaps showing fruits and vegetables growing and in the more familiar form (i.e. as bought in the shop); three pull out books that show how jeans, rubber tyres and paper are made; a fantastic pop-up of a cargo ship detailing where certain food stuffs come from and other interesting facts (like how much beer and rum sailors drank) and a beautiful pop-up of a flower arrangement with each flower described under a flap.It should be no surprise that parents love the book - it is educational (packed with useful and interesting information - although it is quite a strange, eclectic mix), beautifully made and beautifully presented. I was worried that this might be a book that parents love and children don't. However, my four-year old son fell in love with it instantly as did the six-year old daughter of a friend. It is currently his favourite book - he reads it every day and talks about it all the time. It is a great way to get your children interested in nature. Just one caveat: the book is very well made but it is quite delicate and could easily be damaged by younger children. Very highly recommended
