4 out of 5 stars Great family fun and motivational - but not a substitute for the gym   September 3, 2008

This is a great product. My whole family has had fun on this (apart from the newborn baby, although I think there's a way to weigh him on it which would enable me to avoid the baby clinic and never go out of the house). It's well worth the 70 spent on it, but wouldn't be worth more.

The only thing I really want to add to what has been written before is that it isn't a substitute for the gym, unless you mainly use it to encourage you to jog on the spot (which you don't even use the balance board for). I only add this gripe because I bought it after seeing it demonstrated in a leisure centre by promotional staff who were dressed like personal trainers, and reading reviews which suggested it was a suitable gym substitute. It's a really fun game and I love it, but it's a game and most of the exercises are just for fun. It is motivational and probably much better than spending a weekly fee in a slimming club to be weighed in when the Wii Fit can do it for you and even give you a row if you miss a few days.

If you don't want to use it to lose weight (sadly not the case for me after a baby, but it does apply to my older son) then it seems to be rather goal-oriented. It's no substitute for running about in the park in his case, it's just fun and won't on its own maintain fitness. It's a really sociable game and as some other reviewers have said, more party play features would be good - you have to go out and back in as different Miis to play together. Overall, I've had loads of fun with it but I know I have to get out of the house and exercise as well. I highly recommend it as a game, but not as a substitute for other forms of exercise.

4 out of 5 stars A novel way to help you get fit for some people, for others a severly nasty wake up call...   September 1, 2008

Now i was extremely skeptical about this game when it got released as i didnt believe this game to be any good, but i was wrong as i ended up with a rather novel balance board peripheral and a nice selection of balance games to boot. Up to 8 people can track their progress over a period of time, checking their weight, supplness and awarding points/tips accordingly to tone up.

However this game for some people can be a nasty wake up call to get into shape and some people i will assure you will laothe the way the game can be quite patronising at times; for example small children may get very upset on being called overweight based on the heavily debated BMI Index, and as for me i really didnt like being reminded of the fact that i am very feeble in the muscle department and i find myself strugling to achieve a poxy press up, its gym class all over again...

Pros: A nice supplment to daily excercise
The Balance Board peripheral
Great selection of games/postures/balances

Cons: Game can be very patronising/upseting for some
Some positions are difficult to perform and could cause substantial injury.

5 out of 5 stars MUST have - cant call it a game tho!   August 31, 2008

14 days later - still love this.
Such good fun and a workout and a 1/4 if you so desire.
Wii Fit is fundament to the whole ideal of the Wii market audience ie family...
We all have great fun on this - me, husband 10, 8 and even 3 yr old.
We are seriously competative with regards to beating records.
And I have had the whole family in tears at my attempts at heading footballs (ahem football boots and panda heads which I actually exclaim ouch out loud when they connect!)
I love the yoga - my kids love the hilarious boxing coach - husband loves the muscle workouts.
What I love most about this is that I can pop on to my aerobic class whilst tea is cooking - then chill to my yoga class when kids are in bed.
If you are looking for a PT in your living room then buy this.
The board is so sensitive that if you are doing a particular move wrong then it will advise how to adjust yourself as you are in the stance.
Cant wait for the next installment - will be first in line thats for sure.

5 out of 5 stars Cheaper than a gym subscription   August 26, 2008

Wii Fit is so much fun and the delight of it is that I've seen people who wouldn't usually do conventional exercises working out.
I know its questionable how much you can expect to achieve just using Wii Fit, but the fact that you're doing some activity that is actually quite fun, rather than sitting on your rump and playing Mario Kart, surely thats a good thing?
Shame its out of stock most of the time, and its a shame that there are so many people out there willing to rip you off (thankfully for me, I got mine at its regular price). When you can get it, do.

5 out of 5 stars Was lucky to get this at the RRP.   August 24, 2008

Have been waiting for one of these for ages, but everywhere seemed to sold out. Had to use a site with alerts for when stocks came in stores.(wii- consoles.co.uk)(use the realtime alert!) Was so lucky to get the Wii Fit for the RRP but had to set up my Amazon account for one-click ordering to get in quick before it disappeared from my basket!!
This is a fabulous game, is strenuous and hard work but it definately keeps you fit.
This is addictive fun for all the family, cant wait for more games to be released to support the balance board system.
Good luck in getting one everyone.
