At least *we* live in the real world! October 19, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is without a doubt the best tv show in years, it's like Red Dwarf and The Young Ones were when they first came out. While the surreal-ness of it might get you a few confused looks when you try and explain it to someone who's not seen it, when you find someone who has....well reinacting parts from the show dressed in whatever you could fashion while in the train station can get you some funny looks.
As Philip the horse said about Mark the sparrows music career while he and the rest of them were talking to cut outs of lots of celebrities; 'At least we live in the real world!'
Just amazing! November 7, 2006 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
When I ask my friends if they ever saw this on television, they look at me with a strange glazed stare when I try to describe it!! I love all of it especially when the wanton Clare gives birth and Colin suggests putting them back in with a spoon. 'Get off my lah lahs!' is a well used phrase in my household!!! Well I know what some of my friends will find in their Christmas stockings this year, strange looks indeed!
I am a homo sapien March 28, 2006 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Fantastic when it first came out. I think it loses something on second veiwing, maybe because it relys too much on shock value. Still wonderfully controvertual and funny though. I love Clare the rat, and was inspired to alter my friend Clare's photo to make her look more rattish. The episode where Clare finds a boyfriend is my favourite- really foul and Glen Belt's songs are pure genius. Why no more series were made is beyond me.
Actually worth about 500 stars April 24, 2005 7 out of 9 found this review helpful
I only managed to see one episode of this show the first time it ran on terrestrial, however I still bought the dvd the day it went on sale. This show is absolutely hilarious and even thinking of some of the quotes makes me laugh. I would advise anyone with any kind of sense of humour to watch it. The only thing I would say is that the first episode isn't hugely funny; if I'd only seen that one I wouldn't have been inclined to watch anymore. The best episode is number 5 simply because of Mark the sparrow's hilarious storyline and the quote "i am the manbird of alcatraz." Absolutely brilliant.
A Star Is Hatched! April 13, 2005 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I'm not die-hard Steve Coogan fan but "I am not an animal" is one of the funniest things I've seen on TV.It veers from the surreal and absurd to sharp satire and back again without batting an eye. I don't want to say too much as it will spoil gags by giving them away, and you won't get the benefit of the visuals and voices. I would say that the first episode while ok, is by no means the best, but as the series progresses you will be treated to delights such as an Irish call-centre rabbit, a middle-class bulldog called Winnona and a rightwing sparrow who's stage-name is Glen Belt... The best episode by far is "a star is hatched". It's worth buying just for that one. Enjoy!
