Watch it for it's own sake May 30, 2008 I went to see this at the cinema when it first came out. I have yet to buy the dvd and watch it again. I read the book and loved it, everytime I re-read the book I ball my eyes out!
I usually try to watch films based on books with an open mind and acknowledge that they might not be as great as the book I've read. This time round I did enjoy the film but I do wish the director had stuck with Ceceila Ahern's original storyline. It would have been great set in Ireland permanently and not flitting back and forth to America.
Also the book leads up to Holly thinking about the possibility of finding love again. She can't bear to even contemplate being with someone else as she is still so in love with Gerry. It takes her until the end of the book (almost a year) for her to consider that Gerry may want her to find love again. Therefore I didn't like how the film treated this issue so flipantly with having Holly getting straight into bed with someone else! Perhaps it's prudish of me but I would like to think Holly has a little more integretity than that.
However I did like the film for it's own sake, I was finding it very hard not to cry out loud in the cinema, it has some extremely moving scenes.

Top O' The Morning to Ya! May 29, 2008 3 out of 7 found this review helpful
I decided to rent this out recently to see what all the fuss was about. Plus, i quite like Hilary Swank and Lisa Kudrow as actors so it couldn't be that bad, right?
WRONG! This is literally one of the worst movies that i have ever seen. I didn't intent to watch this and jeer. I expected a light romantic/tragic bit of fluff but this is so much worse than i had ever anticipated.
Firstly, there's the script - irritatingly cliched, messy and completely unrealistic, the Irish accent - where does he think Ireland is, in Russia?, the impression of Ireland - everyone is a farmer, drinks and sings, and finally the actual storyline - what is the story again?
The story jumps around so much that you actually begin not to care about the characters or what happens to them. I can't understand what the telent involved in this movie were thinking when they signed up.
Cecilia Ahern, who's book this is based on, has become something of a whirlwind in the book world. Everyone says that the book is better and maybe it is, i haven't read it. All i know is, if this is even slightly based on the book, that's enough to ensure a life time ban of Cecilia Ahern in my house!
Best Film Ever ** Beware Tissues Needed** May 28, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
This really is my favourite film ever, I laughed, cried, laughed, cried throughout the whole film. It was brilliant, so funny and moving and a real feel good film. I could just watch it over and over again. Buy this if you like feel good, romantic funny films.
This is so bad! May 20, 2008 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
Gerard Butler was at his finest in 300 Feeling guilty for watching it so often at the expense of my partner, I thought let's get this and have a cosy night in! From the first scene, I was cringing. This is just so bad, so hollywood, so ingenuous, so trite. This is not a chick-flick that boys can enjoy with their girlfriends; this is a just poor film. Buy "dear Frankie" instead, it's brilliant
