I bought this in July 07 as a replacement for an earlier ixus model. It is a nice size .. small enough to carry around in a pocket or handbag but large enough to make handling easy. One nice surprise was the quality of the video footage option. Not as good as a purpose built camcorder but good enough to capture short bursts of footage when a camcorder is not available (get a 2 Gb plus card though). Good range of functionality that is not beyond the average user to get to grips with. Very pleased with my purchase.
Great little camera July 12, 2007 14 out of 14 found this review helpful
Hi,
Bought this on the 9th July 2007. As usual amazon were great and it arrived the next day! This is a very good camera ... been snapping away ever since I got it and the picture quality is superb. The 3" screen makes taking pictures a breeze. Recording videos is simple too. I was looking at this camera and the Sony Cybershot DSC-W55. Read the reviews on both cameras at www.cameras.co.uk and decided on the Canon. A great buy ... you won't be disappointed.
The right camera for me July 5, 2007 45 out of 46 found this review helpful
I was torn between this, the IXUS850IS and a Finepix F31FD or F40FD, while I think it is fairly conclusive that the Finepix have better sensors that far exceed the Canon beyond ISO400 and the 850IS has a better zoom with image stabilisation, I still went for the IXUS75 why?
The main reason is that I wanted a camera to carry all the time, so it needed to be small and light. The canon is noticeably lighter and smaller than both the Finepix/850IS, but in reality it is the size when it's in a case that counts (you have to look after the 3inch screen). So I looked around for the smallest case I could find in a clam design (zip around the edge), this turned out to be the Swordfish which is cheap 4.99 and offers, in my opinion, better protection than the Lowepro/Canon pouches. Only the IXUS75 fits in this so decision made and it does turn out to comfortably fit in my pocket.
Remember there will always be camera that take better pictures and newer models round the corner, so you have to look at the whole package and for me the balance between price, size, controls and picture quality was right.
Extras I bought: 1Gb card 10, Swordfish case 4.99, Hahnel battery 13.49 (low battery warning is very short), Aquapac Waterproof case 17 (for holidays but a bit nervous that I will end up trashing my new camera taking pictures under water, but the idea is too cool to not try!)
Also via Amazon I signed up to Photobox - 60 free pictures - which has allowed me to create a set of test pictures only for the cost of delivery with spare left over for my holidays!
So for a total of 220 I am happy that I have covered most of the angles and I am sure if you tried you could get it all even cheaper (remember the Amazon 30 day price promise!)
Why only 4 stars: 3x zoom, limited controls and above ISO400 noticeably noisy.
Wow - just brilliant July 4, 2007 17 out of 17 found this review helpful
I'm really picky about clarity & depth of colour & this camera ticks all the boxes - the photographs are excellent. The camera is really easy to use & battery life is good (the supplied battery takes about 90 minutes to charge). I tried out several other well known makes of camera arround this price range, but it really wasn't too difficult a choice to make. In short you will not be disappointed in this quick to focus little gem!
Fantastic piece of kit June 28, 2007 17 out of 19 found this review helpful
I have had this camera for a few weeks now and it is fantastic. I have used it for capturing both still and video images and it is great at both.
It takes photographs with amazing clarity and colour which look excellent when printed onto photographic paper.
The various video capture settings are a bonus, the camera is capable of creating good quality time lapse videos which are great fun.
Highly recommended.
