4 out of 5 stars Fantastic, thank you!   November 2, 2007

Brilliant little player - the only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 was that it only has 8GB memory. However if you convert your files to a smaller format then this will be fine for about 4000 songs. Great things about the player:
1. Looks and feels great - small but sturdy
2. Sounds amazing - and the headphones are superb and the most comfortable in-ear headphones I have ever had
3. Easy to add music - either drag and drop or synch using Windows Media Player - either way is very simple and fast. It took me a wee while as first it had to convert my files, but it did this all at once by itself
All in all this is a brilliant MP3 player, though if you want lots of music and pictures and videos the memory is too small.

5 out of 5 stars Exactly What I Was Looking For   October 31, 2007

A fantastic mp3 player, small, light, well built and an excellent screen for the size! The audio playback is the best I've ever heard from straight out the box.

I recommend this product to everyone.

5 out of 5 stars Incredible product   October 31, 2007

I have owned a number of ipods and my current IPod 8GB Nano is going in the bin, where it belongs, as soon as I have finished typing this review. The Sony NMWA818 has staggering sound quality with the supplied headphones. My Nano used with Senheisers sounds appalling in comparison.

My advise to anyone even thinking about buying an 8GB IPod Nano is - DON'T. Buy the Sony.

5 out of 5 stars ipod hassle   October 28, 2007

i just got rid of my new ipod nano 8gb? video was good on it but it just lacked bass? the sound of this sony even with the supplied headphones sound amazing, lots of treble clear mids and deep bass on any type of song.no more sonicstage? drap & drop excellence with this 818 version is awesome, cant stop using this as im finding passages in songs that i have never heard before? any apple reps could do themselves a favour and listen to this player? if not just for sound alone.the screen on this model is the same size as the nano video? but somehow it looks biggeron the sony & just as sharp. you need decent headphones for the ipod as with most players, but this player is brilliant i would ask any ipod owners to challenge this with a listen to this player? stu

5 out of 5 stars Better than iPod!   October 27, 2007

Used an iPod for years but this player is so much better! Main thing, sound quality is better - iPod always sounded a bit light weight to me with expensive headphones, Sony just sounds better and is more enjoyable to listen to. Control is so much better than iPod with nice buttons you can feel, no more sudden deafness with the sensitive touch wheel volume control of the iPod! Operation is faster than iPod and doesn't slow down when music is playing.
Thankfully the SonicStage software is gone and it now uses Windows Media Player or drag and drop. WMP still has problems with AAC files but the Walkman plays them perfectly with drag & drop. Hopefully Sony will fix this soon with the yet to be released Media Manager. Videos look great on this screen and many podcasts play perfectly.
