5 out of 5 stars So effective and dinky, absolutely perfect!!   February 18, 2008

I rarely take the time to write reviews on products but love these so much I thought I'd make a special effort, besides, I'm thinking about buying another 2 sets of these as a present.

I bought one set and then another for myself just recently and have used the lights every night since to create a cosy relaxing environment whilst crashed out on the sofa, light my dark hall to save leaving on the main lights and create a homely effect in my bedroom. I've also left the light on all night and find it still burning away the next day. I'll no doubt be using them for a relaxing bath ambience too.

The lights themselves are much smaller than they appear on the photographs/marketing blurb; they are just perfect. They also flicker, the frosted glass adds to the effect, they turn on and off with ease and generally appear to be of high quality. Even the chargers are minimalistic and attractive in themselves and I've stacked one set on top of the other for optimum space saving charging, with success.

These little lights have got many a comment and I rather geekily admire the simplicity and genius of them! Also great around pets and in areas that would normally be slightly risky for a real flame. Buy these (but save 2 for me!!).

4 out of 5 stars Very good   February 7, 2008

I really like these lights. In fact, I liked them so much I bought my brother and his family a set too. I use them every night in my sitting room to add a little ambience while I watch TV. A single charge easiy lasts all night and if I leave them on and they will still be going in the morning.

I have knocked off a star but I am really only being niggley; the charging button has me confused a little as to when it is supposed to be illuminated and when it is supposed to be out. Also, I think Philips could have made the flickering effect slightly more convincing.

Bought one set as a whim and they are fantastic so have bought 3 more sets. They are great gifts for that person who has every thing and 13 year old daughter thinks they are cool so can't be bad

4 out of 5 stars Not Waterproof!   January 8, 2008

I ordered these lights after reading a couple of reviews stating they're 'waterproof'. Well now that they've arrived, I would like to correct those reviews. Sadly, these lights are NOT waterproof, it even clearly says so on the instruction leaflet, which also advises; when cleaning don't get them wet, at most, use only a damp cloth. It's a shame, I had been looking forward to plonking a couple in the bath once I'd got them fully charged (childish perhaps, but we all have our quirks).

After this disappointment I didn't think too much of them at first. When I initially switched one on, done by a gentle flick of the wrist, I was looking down on it from above and the bulb didn't look candle-like at all, just a small blinking orange light, which if it's supposed to be a candle, is clearly a candle in a strong breeze.

That said, viewed from the side, through the frosted glass - as they are meant to be - these lights quickly started to grow on me and, and the funny trick they play on my mind is that a couple of times, even though I know they're fake, if I've had them on a while I've been cautious of burning myself when picking them up! Of course, there is no heat generated by them at all, so this is ludicrous.

The literature also states you can buy additional lights on their own without the need to buy other charging units so that's useful if you're planning on having multiples of these but 3's fine for me.

One gripe I have with 1 of the 3 lights supplied is that the on/off flick switch can be a bit erratic, so the novelty of having no visible buttons to push etc. wears a bit thin when having to flick the unit a number of times to get it to respond.

Overall, I like these, I think they give a nice warming glow and if the flickering motion is too much for you, placing the lights closer together helps cancel out some of this effect leaving you with a subtle lighting level.

5 out of 5 stars Quick no-mess light in power cuts.....also good mood-lighting   January 8, 2008

You can have candlelit rooms where no constant supervision is required due to presence of real flames and children (or adults behaving like children, like at parties). Here up North you quite often get power cuts especially in remote areas, especially in winter, so these lights put paid to stumbling round in the dark lighting candles or the harsh light of torches especially if the power's off for many hours. Other reviewers speak of the realistic effect etc; I won't repeat them, but I do agree, and I'm glad I bought two sets so that one can recharge whilst the other's in use. I gave a set to someone for Christmas and they love it. I've just ordered another set for myself.
