5 out of 5 stars Worth every penny!   December 3, 2008

Out of the box this lamp has a futuristic look, it is well made and the remote has an apple feel of simplicity to it. Plug it in, point it at the wall and create thousands of different colours instantly. My room is all white and wanted something that would give it character, this light paints my walls instantly. Since it is LED it does not heat up, it is a low energy user and no problems to note for during the 2 weeks I have had it. Might be pricey for a lamp, but so worth it.

5 out of 5 stars Gorgeous colours and fun for all the family   November 22, 2008

My husband bought me this for my birthday - and I love it! We've put it in the bedroom and I have the "zapper" on my bedside table. In the morning I turn it a bluey colour to help us wake up (circadian sensor), in the evening I have it on a dull orange as we get changed for bed (no circadian hit). If we want to read in bed, we just about can with it desaturated to white, though it's not really bright enough for long-term reading (and you couldn't light your living room with it).

Our 2-year-old son loves it too. When he climbs in our bed in the morning he always asks for the remote, plays with it and shouts out the colours.

I also took it along to a physics course my friend teaches - it is an excellent way to explain to people how you can make yellow light out of red and green. It's not really designed to provide white light though - the colour rendering is not great when it's on white (because there are bits of the spectrum missing "between" the LED emittance bands). This means you shouldn't use it as room illumination when you might have to recognise colours in what you're doing.

But as fun mood lighting it's great! And a superb present to buy a woman for Christmas!

4 out of 5 stars Not cheap but worth it perhaps   November 12, 2008

I was somewhat offput by the cost at first but Amazon cut the price and I decided to buy one and have not since regretted it.

Firstly, don't think of this as a light source, it is not, it's designed for mood lighting in an otherwise darkened room. The best way to use it, at least for me, it is to locate it in a corner in a room with white or plain walls angled upwards. You can then just keep on for a pleasant moody atmospheric lighting changing it as the fancy takes you or just allowing it to cycle through its' auto setting.

If you have the money for it you can buy up half a dozen of them and they will work together to create ( I imagine) a stunning effect.

Remember that the LED light source is non replaceable and the unit itself, which is about the size of a large melon, is fairly delicate so it needs to be carefully handled.

If you are looking for some mood lighting for a special room then this would be a great buy, although a cheap one.

5 out of 5 stars Just Love It   October 20, 2008

I had been looking round for a mood lamp and spotted this one on Amazon but it was while I was in a local store I saw a demonstration of it. I fell in love with it on the spot and as the hubbie did as well I couldn't buy one quick enough.

It looks like quite an arty modern lamp, I have the clear version and have it pointed into a corner, accentuating a wooden leaf arrangement I have in a vase. The chosen colour sweeps right from the corner and across the wall. It effectively makes a wall appear a different colour, we have cream walls and the effect is fantastic. A splash of colour without the mess of painting or getting bored with the colour.

It is very easy to set up as you just scroll a touch wheel round to your chosen colour then you can change the intensity of the colour by touching another button.

It is just effective at creating a different feeling to a room and if you hadn't guess I just love it.

It may appear to be expensive but it really does work and creates a focal point in a room. I definitely recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars How trashy does the description of this thing sound?   September 29, 2008

I heard about this lamp and dismissed it as a trashy cheap sounding toy, but I was in Dublin recently and saw one in operation in a philips shop. It was actually kind of nice and because you can turn down the intensity of the colours a lot, it really manages to create a lot of different moods.

When I got it back home it was even better, in the evenings, in our white painted apartment, it could totally transform the look of the place. Light blues, deep greens, or hellish deep red, whatever the colour or intensity you want with the remote it only takes seconds to get it.

The lamp is nice and heavy, although a little top heavy, and the guy in the shop told me there was a stand for it but there was nothing in the box. The design is very Apple, and the remote is gorgeous even on it's own, with the glossy white finish and round spectrum to play with. It's also not infra-red, so you don't need line of sight with it.

I thought the price was pretty high, but now I'm starting to convince myself that one or two more wouldn't be such a bad purchase. Very recommended!
