Having upgraded pc and upgraded to this from an old version of family tree maker, I found this program easy to use with a wealth of features. The report facility is not bad, with useful things like lists of missing information etc, but I found the diagrams available a little limited, not much better than my old program. The link to the LDS search page and the ability to upload data directly is good, its a shame this facility is not available for other sources. Having not tried any of the other current products its difficult to compare, but I would recommend this program for an amateur at geneaology such as me. The platinum edition comes with an atlas, which is useful, but the other CD's aren't much use. I'd recommend buying the cheaper standard edition.

Found it easy to get going and liked all the different chart options. Lots of different reports and could simply print them or edit them.I Liked free Birth Marriage and Death data which got me started on a new line. I feel the package grows with you as the more I use it the more features I find.

After reading several magazine reviews I thought I would give RootsMagic a try. I already have Family Tree Maker but wanted something that would offer better research and reporting features.It’s really easy to use, and the first thing I really liked was the wall chart report. You can move boxes around and scale them, and copy and paste pictures in, letting you create a truly customized chart. This is something that I had never been able to do before. Another good thing about the charting is that you can delete a box from a chart, as it’s not directly linked to the database, unlike Family Tree Maker 2005 which I found very frustrating. Having total control of the books, reports and websites gives it a massive advantage over other software I have tried. I can edit my own website created by RootsMagic whenever I want. The Shareable CD has meant that sharing my research with relatives hasn’t forced them to buy the package as they can view a read-only version of my research on CD. Although I haven’t had RootsMagic for a long time, I have already done a lot with it and I am looking forward to digging deeper in to the package. So in conclusion, RootsMagic is to my mind, the best software available!

I compared all the packages and roots magic looked the best. Having used it I found it was easy to pick up and had loads of features.There's lots of useful research material on the CD's that are included and I managed to find some long-lost relatives with the online BMD subscription. The subscription was free and it didn't ask me to put in my credit card details which put me off other so-called free trials. I'd recommend rootsmagic to anyone.
