2 out of 5 stars Interesting for 5 minutes.....   February 17, 2005

This cd-rom doesn't have a lot of longevity in that it can't teach you all that much.

The things that it DOES teach are limited in their usefulness and seem quite unconnected to their use in the context of the language. It basically just teaches you 'words' - not how the words fit together. So, if you want to know the Punjabi word for 'Head' or 'Blue' - this could be what you're looking for. If you want to know how to put those words together to say 'My head's gone blue' - you're out of luck.

Each section of the CD-ROM (Body Parts, Colours etc) has a quiz at the end so that you can test yourself on what you've learnt. These quizzes are TOO EASY and move at a painfully slow pace. There are 'advanced' quizzes as well but they're just as slow and are practically the same as the basic tests.

On the plus side, there are two on-screen figures who speak the words being presented. This is quite useful because it gives you an idea of pronunciation - something that you don't get from a book.

I had fun with it for a couple of hours.

4 out of 5 stars Fun for the basics and to get you started..   February 16, 2005

This is a fun way to learn basic punjabi words and phrases such as food items, body parts, colours, very basic phrases, telling the time, counting. I found it useful for these basics and to get going but you need much more for conversational punjabi. For this I found Punjabi Guru was an excellent follow up.

3 out of 5 stars okay but   May 23, 2004

For the beginner talk now can prove quite useful - colours in punjabi are now my forte. But it is too basic, it is basically a phrase book with no explanation into the structure of sentances or the meaning of individual words. Games are ok though and as a supplement to something more meaty may be of use.
