Simply awful December 15, 2007 7 out of 9 found this review helpful
As a bit of an MS office fan I was looking forward to this. I first came across Word in the DOS days, and loved it. When Word for Windows came out I was amazed. Various versions, from Word 2, Word 95, 97, XP, 2000, and 2003. MS has done well out of me. They did well out of me too with 2007.
This is a six month review. I have tried using the product for six months and today finally gave up in frustration trying to find items in the ribbon. I've finally removed it and gone back to 2003, which is so much easier to use. Until MS bring out an upgrade enabling a "Classic" menu view, then I wont be using it. I'd rather use a WIMP than a WIRP any day.
A lttle tricky to get used to but just as good as previous versions of Office December 11, 2007 14 out of 16 found this review helpful
Ok, when i first got this i had trouble dealing with the new ribbon stle menues, but after using the online training exercises available through the help function i was well on my way to using it very quickly within 5 minutes of completing the course!
Others have given this product bad reviews, mostly becaue of the ribbon replacing the conventional menues, but i have to say that now that i know how to use them the ribbons are much easier to use then going through all those menues. It took me only five minutes to learn all the commands nad get used to using them, as opposed to the week it took me with previious versions of office to fully learn how it all works.
recomend any user take up the online training courses at Microsoft before buying and decide wether they like it or not. But in my opinion for my uses it is an excelent program.
What, no outlook December 9, 2007 10 out of 12 found this review helpful
This came as part of the bundle on a new desktop machine. I have used Excel and Word, Word is Word, it looks much the same as 2000/2003. The user interface on Excel as changed abit. The main downside is the lack of Outlook, this is a real bummer as MS in their great wisdom did not include a pst file reader in the Vista Mail client, so I can not migrate my mail files from the out machine to the new machine with out a lot of work. The lack out Outlook makes this worthless to me and the Children on their machines. I am sticking with Office 2003 for now,

office 2007 is to me one of those radical changes that I don't think was necessary. The advantage of the previous versions is you did not have to learn anything new. I have my trial version set to default to save to word 97-2003 otherwise if people are not on 2007 they cannot access the documents I send them. So in many ways you may as well just have word 97 to 2003! 2007 is so radically different from previous versions that you do need to take a little time to learn where everything is. I've only used the trial versions so far but I've decided I'll be sticking to 2003, it's alot less hassle.
What happened to don't fix what aint broken. November 21, 2007 18 out of 20 found this review helpful
I'm not conservative - I love innovation and change; but why in the world has Microsoft completely shattered all resemblance to any previous word processor when we've all been writing with the same layout for 10 years? That's like changing the layout of a keyboard to make it more "streamlined" and pretty - values that Microsoft thinks matters. If you come from Office 2003 get ready for some serious work just to change paragraph settings, save a document, change the font etc. A tool should be functional. Office 2007 is anything but that.
