Beware product not as stated November 22, 2008 Although this product description says that it is compatable with Windows Vista, THE PRODUCT I RECEIVED STATES "Windows Me/2000/XP/x64 and dosen't work with Vista, but it did work on my old laptop with Windows XP
Very nice to look at but not very challenging January 29, 2008 13 out of 15 found this review helpful
I am basing my review mainly on my experience with the Backgammon section. I purchased this game primarily for Backgammon. If you are after a chess, Othello or other computer opponent then you might have a better experience than I did. Anyway, here goes...
This game has very nice graphics, and the writers have obviously gone to a great deal of effort to make it presentable. However, it just doesn't play a good game of backgammon.
Bad Point #1: you cannot play a match. You can only play a single game. So that makes doubling etc entirely pointless.
Bad Point #2: the computer sucks big time. I played it on its hardest level and whipped it twice in a row without any real effort. I consider myself intermediate at best, certainly no expert, so if I can beat it many other people can too.
Bad Point #3: there really is no match play. I mention this again for added effect. We want match play and doubling etc! Backgammon without matches is like football without a ball.
I played Othello too on hard level and it spanked me. I hadn't played for ages though, so perhaps I am a better backgammon player than I thought?
Ludo was strangely compelling.
Good Point #1: it looks very nice. Good Point #2: the whole family can play it. Good Point #3: you can't loose any pieces. Good Point #4: if you spank your wife at backgammon she can't "accidently" kick the board over before you have completed your victory jig.
Perhaps 3 stars is being a bit harsh. Mind you, I bought it as a backgammon opponent, and it ain't that.
