4 out of 5 stars Outstanding, few small problems   June 23, 2008
I bought this in a deal when i bought my laptop. i was cautious towards Norton because i had Norton 2005 before this, which was extremely slow and sluggish. The installation speed was extremely slow, but much to my delight, installed properly first time, which is always nice!

Since then, in 14 months, i have never had one problem with my laptop, whether that was also down to the laptop being a Toshiba or not thats irrelevant. I can safely surf the web, buying my shopping online, which has even converted my parents to it!

The alert system is good, it alerts you when it finds a tracking cookie, and usually minimizes all programs just to make sure (which can be annoying!) Its scans are very simple to use, you can customize them really easily to suit you. i would give caution to people with just one processor, the scans are quite demanding on computing power! (doesn't bother me, i have a dual core!!) I have found the backup feature utterly pointless, they give you 2GB, and you have to update the backup every week, which you have to set up manually.
On to the best bits, it is very thorough! The scans clean up everything, from temperary files, to files you don't want, and the best part of the program, Disk Fragmentation. This makes your system run at optimal levels all the time, and this actually works! (I know MSFT has one but its crap!!!

Overall, its a very well developed piece of software, which caters for almost everything one could possibly need. Can't give it 5* because of the few little 'problems'. other than that, well worth the money

3 out of 5 stars Too Many Problems   May 22, 2008
I have Run Norton 360 for a year on my laptop (work) and desktop PC (home) - not networked - and have had problems with Norton on both. On one it refused to do the automatic updates and Norton's fixes were no help. On both it slowed thing down and if I tried to send more than a few emails at one time, came up with a message "Norton has encountered a problem", and refused to send them, but never told me which ones - so I would have to resend everything. It really slowed down both PC's, especially on startup. I am deleting it from both and trying Windows OneCare.

4 out of 5 stars Maybe I've been lucky but...   May 20, 2008

...I've had no problems at all with this product and am about to renew my licenses. I've had it installed for a year on a desktop running XP, a laptop running XP and a laptop running Vista. I was surprised to notice all the bad reviews, so thought it would help to add my own for the sake of balance.

I found installation simple and the product has run quietly in the background without causing any noticeable slowdown. Indeed, I'd almost forgotten I had it until the renewal reminders started (NB these are very annoying, popping up a couple of times a day for the whole of the last month). On the couple of occasions when a problem has been detected, a click on the 'fix' button has been all that's required - problem solved.

The reason for losing a star is the subscription renewal being charged by Symantec - 54.99 for another year, or 95.99 for two years and an upgrade to version 2.0. This seems ridiculous given I can buy the whole product new here on Amazon for 19.99!

Clearly you should be cautious given the negative experiences of other reviewers, but based purely on my own experiences, I can recommend this product. It seems particularly suited to people who aren't interested in tinkering in lots of settings or who aren't particularly technically skilled and - like me - just want to install the software and then forget about it whilst it gets on with its job.

5 out of 5 stars The pooch's privates   April 14, 2008

Norton has it's quirks. The most annoying being that it's so difficult to REALLY uninstall any Norton product. Go to the Symantec site, download the Norton uninstall utility and do a complete uninstall of any previous versions and you'll be fine. I would also recommend downloading the latest Norton 360 from the Symantec site, even if you do have a CD as you'll be installing the very latest version. I've installed on my desktop, my wife's desktop and my laptop and I'm very impressed. The trusted network is a lot easier to set up too.

5 out of 5 stars Sorry to disagree...   April 5, 2008

I hate to disagree with the majority of the other reviews, but I am really happy with 360. Seems much less resource hungry than any previous Norton (and I've used it for years) and it just gets on with doing the job. System gets a regular cleanup, backup is done on a regular basis, updates are totally automatic, and generally is a well-thought-out and well-rounded application.

Thoroughly recommended.
