5 out of 5 stars Fast   March 14, 2008

Easy to install, has all the protection one needs, I am glad I got rid of Norton, as this McAfee lets your computer run much much faster than Norton. A big plus is, you can use it on three of your home computers. The price, well you wont get a better deal.

4 out of 5 stars Another year, again another McAfee review   March 13, 2008

I think I have reviewed every McAfee software for the past 4 years?
I just can't get enough of how good it is..

to be honest I did get confused with like the "3 user edition" and the 17 other editions, get over that confusing task and then you have it.
Ok your probably thinking, why don't I just update via the net. well as I have said before (I think on amazon), there isn't anything nicer then buying the boxed edition, I don't like upgrades, and renewing a license, it just makes me feel like I am cheap and don't want to buy the latest software - I know this isn't the case but thats just me)

Now when it comes to security I will always pick McAfee, they haven't let me down yet.
My network server (although only has Media files on it) has been running non stop for over 9 months, only restarting to install McAfee, not one virus found, Hackers are stopped, and this newer version also uses less runtime and does a better job!

With McAfee I just know that I can leave my computers on and have no worries.

In fact my computers are more at risk from me, then outside intrusions.

5 out of 5 stars a little surprised, seems fine so far   February 28, 2008

Mcafee has had some bad press, 2007 suite was a bad suite, nice features and layout but such a system hog and loading an internet page was a drag. Funny thing was I have been trying all manner of security options and had been using zonealarm 7, I had used there stuff before and it looks all nice and pretty but I was getting some strange errors and a lot of system drag and delayed bootup, not what I was expecting. I tried norton, waste of time felt like macafee 2007, kaspersky is the main man at the mo but I got sick of all the pop ups and it didn't seem that quick despite I am sure top notch security. But I don't want to be resetting stuff and configuring this and that, it's a family laptop so other people use it and not all people are pc savy. If it was just for my laptop I probably would plump for kaspersky no question and enjoy setting it to my needs and desired security, but it's not practical, they need to work on this to make it perfect.
So just for the hell of it I reloaded my old mcafee 2007, mainly to get some security on and do some more research. I like site advisor so it got loaded. Wow, is this the same suite, further investigation and I had received a free upgrade to 2008, thats good. First thing web pages and browsing were eons quicker, boot up good, better than zonealarm and general operation great. Some nice new features and after whacking up the firewall security a notch or two, away we go. Impressed, the cpu usage is much better and it just operates nice and normal, no annoying pop ups even the registry guard seems quieter than 07? I hope thats a good thing
Give it a try, its simple, it stays in the background, kaspersky may have all the rave reviews and have a snappier antivirus but this loaded simply and will leave you alone to do other things on your pc , go for it, I have now but a disc to continue my application for later this year. Well done mcafee, so long Norton....come on kaspersky!!

2 out of 5 stars Dirty Tricks   February 25, 2008

McAfee have recently introduced AUTOMATIC RENEWAL. It sounds harmless enough, but what that means is, without telling you first, or informing you via email, you are 'opted-in' to this new service, which debits your bank account for cover renewal well in advance.

Basically, they take money from your account without your permission or consent, using your card details they have on record. Not only that, but you can't cancel the automatic renewal service from your online McAfee account; no, you have to contact Customer Services to get it taken off.

There are many people out there who's bank account will be tipped into an overdraft situation with this little McAfee trick, and the banks will then charge people for going overdrawn with their accounts, and all because McAfee think it's fine to take money from peoples accounts without permission, and opting them into something that should legally be agreed to first.

Bottom line - McAfee gives great protection with it's software, but this latest stunt proves that they can act just as badly and dishonestly as the people online they are trying to protect you from. Shame on you, McAfee

4 out of 5 stars Incompatable with Spybot and Lavasoft AD-Aware   January 28, 2008

It's a hit and miss affair choosing internet protection, what one person says works for them doesnt always work for you.
Tried Norton AV in the past but it was a nightmare and I returned it to my local PC shop for a refund.
Success with McAfee since 2004 although installing last years (2007) Internet Security suite was a total pain. As I plan to get an additional laptop this year it was cheaper to purchase the 2008 3 user version, it is also cheaper than getting a year of extra updates from McAfee.
2008 version installed very quickly has an identical interface with a couple of extra bells and whistles added.
Overall McAfee seems to work quietly and efficiently in the background without hogging resources as I had found with Norton. The anti phishing filter seems to work: I found out the hard way last year when I switched it off for a period and got phished!!
One downside with the 2007 and 2008 MIS versions is that there are incompatabilities with some third party anti spyware applications eg Ad- Aware and Spybot. McAfee Installation detected them and I was requested to remove them before continuing the installation. If you plan to install McAfee it might be quicker to uninstall such third party applications first. A list of them can be found on the McAfee support website but you have to hunt around to find it. Try searching the site for 'incompatible third party applications'
