5 out of 5 stars A great piece of software   January 30, 2008

I found the layout very easy to use plus there is a lot of support on the web if you want to find out how to do somthing there is almost always a tutorial on what you are trying to achive. If you just look on youtube you will see there are loads of great tutorials on there.

Vegas 8 Platinum has enabled me to capture my HD footage with great quality and with the added bonus of getting DVD Architect Studio software with it I have been able to produce some great quality dvds that look and sound amazing when watching them on a HD TV.

I would strongly recomend this software to people who want to get more out of there family movies and for semi pro video enthusiast. I have also used it to produce show reels and short films on it. Rendering times of your movies will obviously vary pending on length of project and the quality of your renders and the speed of your PC. I have found vegas to be great for rendering out footage to youtube as you can have total control of your output rendering setting.(you can even find out do this on youtube)

Vegas comes with some great special effects that are easy to use can make your videos have very professional look.

If I had the money I would have brought the full version of vegas but I have been really impressed with the Platinum edtion. The lack of the masking tools in this version has not been an issue for me as I have always prefferd to use adobe after effects for this.

I have purchased a number of Pinnacle products in the past because they were easy to use and considered to be the best of the mid range editing products. I found the end results a little lacking as the the picture frames were jittery and I had terrible problems with Lip / Picture synchronisation. Despite contacting Pinnacle who were basically telling me that I needed a new computer with two hard drives?? which seemed strange at the time as the unit I have was well above the specifications on the box.

Treated myself to a new Sony Camera (hard drive variety) glad I did as I began to look for new editing software to go with the new system. Found this little package, bit dubious, being used to Pinnacle for so long. However fears unfounded in fact because the lingo is more like professional it has helped my Children with their GCSE film and drama. Will admit takes a little effort to get used to the new controls (read manual) etc but once basics done you think what was I thinking this is so easy, even now I keep finding more things that it will do (old tape renovation etc).

Have produced an hour fifteen minute dvd of Wedding at first attempt was expecting to have to do the usual trick of adjusting sound track to match as close as possible the film but no in fact after adding sound tracks, video from various sources, still etc I have ended up with film that looks and sounds absolutely Awesome especially as the sound Is in 5.1 played on cinema system Its just like you are back there on the day. Talking all around and even better lip synch spot on. Oh Sony you have put the enthusiasm back into my film making and on the same computer that Pinnacle said would not produce good films oh how wrong they were. Highly recomended.

I have tried them all from high end Premiere 6 and Pinnacles professional editong suite to Pinacles cheaper offerings and Adobe Premiere Elements.

Vegas is simple but not condesending and you don't have to keep buying the add-ons to do the useful stuff.

You can separate the sound from the video - right click and go to Group > un-group and then the sound and video are capable of being edited separatly. You can also turn off the sound on one or more of the sound tracks.

Wish I could afford the full version.

If you purchase this software you should be aware that it does NOT edit video like other software does such as Video Edit Magic. You cannot separate the 'video' from the 'sound' and edit them separately as in Video Edit Magic. So if you have a section of video or sound that you want to edit out but leave the video or sound `as it is' Video Edit Magic allows you to do this, Sony does not with Sony you have to edit out the video and the sound 'enblock' yes you can place a text over the video as a `get me round' this problem but when it comes to sound you cannot edit it unless you purchase Sony Sound Forge which they conveniently forget to mention in their bumph advertising of this software. I have tried to put together 3 short videos of about 20 minutes and the program locks up even with a 6 gig temp file! Re-boot and it still locks up. Video Edit Magic with the same videos just carries on and does the job. The rest of Sony is OK but you would think that basic functions such as on other software would be standard after all the rhetoric that Sony use, I'm being generous to Sony with a 3 star rating its more like a posh video joiner with `some' bells and whistles than a video editing suite !

This is a fantastic piece of software for the reasons listed in the reviews below. I bought it primarily for editing hi-def footage taken the HDR-SR7E and it does the job admirably.
