5 out of 5 stars Installation was very easy   February 28, 2008

I was quite put off by the reviews I read and almost didn't buy the update. In fact the installation was totally straightforward. I didn't have to remove anything, just enter my activation number, endorse the licence agreement, choose the location to save the files and update my account. The activation was automatic. I have used Norton since 2001 (a new update every year!) on five different machines (Toshiba and Sony laptops, Sony desktop), and never had a problem. The 2008 version does run faster than the previous ones (the only downside of Norton in my view). A very good application.

1 out of 5 stars Terrible- worse than bad   February 23, 2008

Followed suggested 'free' upgrade path from NIS 2007. Very bad move. Upgrade stalled with product not installed properly and a host of error messages on resart. Even Removal Tool stalling when I tried to use it to remove unsuccessful installation! Worst ever. I have been tiring of Norton (Symantec really)for a while now and this was last straw. I am going to try Kaspersky instead but worry its interface is more user intensive- we shall see. I really must say that this is one of the worst installs I have ever experienced, and that is many. Never got product working. Abysmal. Oh, and I already know tech/cust support is a complete waste of time and money. Time for this company to shape up or ship out. Truly disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars Slow to install but....   February 9, 2008

Great once it was installed. No problems at all (was a bit worried after reading the other reviews) and cheap too, was 20GBP from Amazon.

3 out of 5 stars Good but a pain in the XXXX to install   February 9, 2008

I upgraded to this from Norton Internet Security 2006. It works fine and doesn't affect the operations of other programmes, unlikethe 2006 version which slowed everything down very badly.

But installing this took me about a day's effort. All the downloads from the Norton website to fix installation problems didn't work. I had several exchanges by email with the Norton engineers. In the end I got 4 pages of detailed instructions to follow to reinstall the system and get it working. I followed the instructions and it is now working OK.

Nice product, but getting it installed on my brand new Windows XP machine was a pain in the XXXX.

4 out of 5 stars Better than the previous versions   February 1, 2008

I have been running without issue with NIS since the 2002 versions. Yes it was on occasions troublesome to install at times but this version, and the 2007 version have given me no problems.
Consider how many copies have been sold and the resulting number of adverse comments and make your own mind up.
It really is not the bloatware and resourse hog of the past.
