2 out of 5 stars No different from previous versions.   January 28, 2008

I think the only thing worth having that's new is the HDDVD/Blu-Ray support. If you just want to burn discs with Nero Burning Rom then don't bother as your old version 7, or even 6,5,4 will probably be just the same! This program never changes much and I can't believe they had the ordacity to claim that it's faster! It's simply too big (a modest instalation with only burning rom, back-it-ip, cover designer, express, vision and wave editior will set you back 1gb), too slow and not any different to the old one.

1 out of 5 stars The product not too bad,the Company Horrible   January 22, 2008

I purchased the software at a retail store. I had problems,e-mailed their tech support and worked with them. Due to nature of the "Fix", had to download the software. Had to Pay for the download.

Since Download not needed because I already owned the software, spent months truing to get a refund, all to no avail. Company refused refund due to it being a download. They fought this every way they could, and I ended up "Out" the $81+.

Really good companies like Corel do not have problems like this.

My opinion, DO NOT DO Business with this company. This is the first and only problem I ever had with a company doing business on the internet, and I purchase almost everything on the internet. STAY AWAY........

1 out of 5 stars system hogging bloatware at it's worst   January 19, 2008

Oh dear, I should have read the reviews here before buying. This software isn't fit for purpose. I will be returning it to Amazon. My system is well above the requirements suggested and runs Windows XP. Nero6 was uninstalled without problem. Installation took an eternity, always a worrying sign. After finally installing successfully it runs for a short period and then as soon as it is asked to do any work it seizes the system.

I suppose if you have a quad core processor and 4GB ram you might be able to use it.

For anyone who hasn't bought a high end PC in the last 6 months steer clear.

How can this stuff be brought to market???

1 out of 5 stars Slow your computer to a crawl   January 12, 2008

Nero 8 has an indexing program 'NMIndexStoreSvr.exe' that stops my computer functioning and is impossible to turn off. Videos stop/start for 30 seconds or so, no other software will run, the whole system locks up. Disabling in the Task manager helps but I have to do this whenever I start any Nero program. Switching off 'Nero Scout' is meant to help but that makes no difference to me. Nero customer support does not respond - support request currently open for a week with no response.

1 out of 5 stars Backup just does not work for me   January 2, 2008

Since there are plenty of maybe not so good applications for writing CD/DVD's and a number of media players, my main use of the nero software has been to backup 'my documents' from my mirrored drives to DVD-RW's.

I have used Nero 6 in windows xp for a number of years. I did once try the Nero 8 trial but it didn't work and I put it down to conflicts with other software. I then changed my hardware and reinstalled XP and tried Nero 8 trial again but it failed in the same way. I then took the decision to upgrade to Vista Ultimate which is incompatible with Nero 6 so I upgraded to Nero 8. On a clean installation with only Nero added, Backitup failed in exactly the same way as it had under XP. I could backup My Documents from my separate Data drive in two halves of under 6GB each but somewhere around 6GB it crashed.

This problem appears to be unique to me as I have seen no references to it on the internet.

Anyway, make sure you try the trial version before buying this.

Disc burning worked correctly but that is not what I use the program for hence the low rating.
