SimpleStart is the model of simplicity October 16, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
In terms of features, SimpleStart is a good, basic accounting system. All the key areas - invoicing, estimating and bank reconciliation - are well covered. You can create invoices speedily through a hyperlink on the homepage and can now email both estimates and invoices as PDF attachments. And, aside from the standard entries in SimpleStart's slimmed down list of 14 reports, which now includes a trial balance and a better audit trail, there are useful gems, including a "Total Sales by customer" report that shows an overview of active customers and their balances. Handily, you can drill down on its figures to the invoices.
It's also good to see the use of plain English in reports: rather than the traditional aged debtor analysis, SimpleStart's equivalent is the clearer "Invoices that haven't been paid". Unfortunately, though, the reports are hamstrung. While you can now extensively customise the layout of reports and forms, I couldn't find a way to export them to Word and Excel for further analysis.
Overall a nice basic system for basic book keeping...if this is you, then its spot on
Simple and effective October 16, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Frankly, this software does everything very simply and pretty well. There are tutorials for any problems you may have, but frankly, I didn't find much need for them. It's not packed with features, which could be a problem for some, but it is ideal for very basic accounting.
Ideal for any sized busines, takes time to get used to it though! October 16, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this software for my Brother who has a medium sized business with a tunover of about 3million a year. His secretary does all the accounts for the firm and she's recommended changing to this software as she had used it successfully in the past in other places where she was responsible for the bookeeping and accounts. I was told that the software takea a little time and studying to get just rightm but once it's up and running it's the best on the market for a small - to medium sized business and does everything that's needed as it suggest on the cover. Recommended above all other software packages but give yourself a few days toget used to it, give it a trial run, study and you'll be fine.
SimpleStart, Simple Software - True To Its Word October 12, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
QuickBooks' SimpleStart is a simple, easy-to-use piece of software for anyone starting their own business, and wanting to do quick accounting, without messing around in spreadsheet programs, trying to calculate countless sums and totals in order to get the resulting figures they need.
The program is not advanced, and not meant for full professional users, with larger businesses, where you'd need things like VAT, etc. QuickBooks do offer an alternative professional version, but for anyone offering a service, such as setting up a website design company, or a masseuse offering their services to members of the public, this software is perfect.
Before committing to a purchase, it may be worth investigating through some Google searches exactly what your business will require in terms of accounting software, but for most home users, SimpleStart would be a great choice.
Essential? I would think so. October 6, 2008 I have in the past had a somewhat tortured relationship with Quickbooks. I really could not get a handle on the package!
This lite version is therefore an essential repackaging of the Quickbooks product line. It doesn't need night school and an economics degree to get to work, and is certainly going to be the ideal starter point for those people with new businesses.
Keep It Simple, Stupid. The KISS rule is so often just what a new business needs and Quickbooks SimpleStart adheres to that. Simple to install, simple to start keeping acounts and a great lead-in product to later more complicated accounting packages as a business grows.
