4 out of 5 stars Something i've found out too late!!   August 18, 2008

everyone needs to consider when choosing either iwork or office that when you receive e-mails most attachments will be office documents. so if you choose to only buy one it may be worth your while getting office for the convenience of being able to read sometimes important attachments!!!

5 out of 5 stars At last a modern version of Office for MAC users.   August 10, 2008

I am a dual MAC and PC users. generally I use the MAC for play and photography and the PC for work and to use those software programmes which are not dual platform - I mean not MAC friendly.

I have used Microsoft Office from its first incarnation and nothing touches it for its ability and power and its worldwide recognision. I have used the MAC programmes but whilst I like them they are somewhat more basic then I like. So I saw this and bought it, even after reading the awful reviews from some reviewers.

My view, it does exactly what I want it to do, I can easily send Excel and Word files to my PC with no platform problems and as yet I can't fault it. The big plus for me is that it has Entourage so I can down load my Outlook emails and MAc emails at the same time and it has Messenger.

There are a few things I would have liked in the programme and these are firstly, that Messenger was as powerful as the Microsoft PC version. The MAC version has no video and no shared files facility so if I want to send a file or start a video with a mate I have to swap platforms.

The other problem I had is that this version comes with 3 licences. Great, unless your daughter, like mine, loads the software and uses the same licence I used. Microsoft then freeze the use of that programme on that computer and even removing the programme will not resolve the issue. I had to remove the programme and the cookies in the MacBook then use Time Machine and go back a week an reload from there. Takes about 4 hours!!!

Anyway I suppose thats my problem not Microsoft.

All in all a great bit of software and please I hope that software developers soon catch up and write more great programmes for the MAC.

I would like to say that this software is much better than 2004 and so far i have not found any problems with it. It loads very fast and hasn't crashed once yet.

5 out of 5 stars Works Well. Better than Mac Pages   July 4, 2008

Have had no problems at all with word 2008, no crashes no speed problems. Tried using Mac Pages but pages has limited functionality, so use word.

1 out of 5 stars I've downgraded to 2004 now.   June 26, 2008

I'm an English student and I need Word to type up my essays and my dissertation. I upgraded thinking "this one will be more stable and faster". WRONG. So wrong. It was ludicrously slow to load. On average 45-70 seconds to launch on a new MacBook, which is unacceptable. Once running the software has glitches and takes a long time to alter between the new interface ribbon at the top. It crashed on nearly every save. Needing this for my work, which I cannot afford to be losing large parts of I decided, ultimately, to sell my copy online and reinstall my older, supposedly slower 2004 version.

A very dissatisfied student customer.

If you need Office, stick with the 2004 one. It may run slower on an Intel based Mac, but it's far more stable and usable. Trust me, my work load and dissertation tells me so.
